My whole car vibrates and shakes due to the engine, and it assures you that the car is indeed running lol. My passengers always mention that they're getting a massage. Engine moves more than it should. I want poly mounts.

    poly mounts = more vibration.

i like em, much better response.
for me its the aluminum crossmember bushings that really throw the vibration over the top.

    -checked the fluid level?

Engine shouldn't vibrate, it will tear up your intake hoses etc
Check your mount's, shims, timing, compression, plugs

Re: SoCal "Murdered Out" (Reverse barely engages?)

I don't mind a vibration. Lets me know how the car is running lol should I play loud music in my car. I have one working speaker which has no bass and cuts in and out. Plus it makes the ride a bit more enjoyable, like I'm in a race car :D

Stig, considering my passengers get a real massage in the back, is that a problem? Anyone else have this crazy vibration. And for my transmission question. my reverse gear barely engages. Is this an excuse for a new tranny :D

i got poly mounts front n back n they seem nice to me, minimal vibration, better response n the engine used to rock back n forth b4, better n a lil cheaper then stock to me :hehe

Check you don't have a busted mount

Box sounds like clutch plates for reverse have gone, have you flushed the box?
Could also be a stuck valve in the valve gear

This is typical of clutch slippage, eventually burns the basket as well

This is not an easy fix - not even for a gearbox shop

Re: SoCal "Murdered Out" (Reverse barely engages?)

Okay. Also at times when the reverse actually engages a bit, I have my foot on the brakes so i can exit out of a parking spot and the car feels like its suffering, like it shaking a bit, kinda like a jerk. I feel as if the gears have missed catching itself in certain spots, so to speak. Hopefully that's more insight as well to this problem.

I'll see if I can flush the box within these next 2 days. And with that, I'm feeling I might see some metal :eek:hnoes

What a shame. I just adjusted my throttle cable and FINALLY added the cone intake I bought from st162Rocket. The car is much more sensitive/responsive. I can say that I've actually brought back some power that the untuned throttle didn't make use of.
Hopefully I don't have to push myself out of a parking spot at school.

Re: SoCal "Murdered Out" (Reverse barely engages?)

    Get this:

My auto tranny's shifting is a bit unusual. The shifting and response is a bit late. I could be coasting on the street and when I hit the gas a bit, the RPMs jump maybe almost 2000 rpms higher until it finally catches itself and pulls the weight of the car. On the freeways it will also randomly shift down to gear 3. Then back to 4 after a couple seconds. Also I'm driving like it's OFF overdrive at times. Higher RPMs. Wierd.

what trans do you have? A140L or A140E? if you end up losing your gears over the next few weeks/months, we may know why...

No idea what tranny I have. I was reading Stigs thread earlier and I read that Toyota doesn't punch in the tranny number? I never bothered to check either. Don't ALL FE's comes with S53's?

-if you do anything with your current box i would advise not having it "flushed". e.g. dont let them add any chemicals, just have them swap for new fluid. lots of problems and leaks show up in autos when their "flushed" since build ups will be dislodged and can float into other areas of the tranny.

-my truck has 150k on it, i had the fluid swapped a while ago and it made a big difference.

    -whats your fluid look/smell like?

that 94 celica's trans should work. it should be the s54 as well. for 3s-fe, it came with s53 manual or a140L/a140E auto, s53 should be up until st182's?? then it was s54 for st202s.

this sounds like fun! i'm also getting a s53 for my auto in the next week or so for cheap!
