    Hello from Southern California!
Thought I'd repost my first thread again since the forums were damaged and it was deleted, but I'll go even more in depth. I've been reading these forums for more than 8 months since I signed up and thank you all for a great site. I'm going to explain I'd like to do to this special car that's dear to my heart. But I'll start off with the history of me and the car. I know you guys love pictures too!

I think this was in 2007.

I'll be straight and to the point.
Mother migrated from the Philippines to the U.S. in 1985. She bought her first car in November 1988, it's now my first car 24 years later. What's special about this car that's 6 years older than me is that she she's been through many memories with the family. One really peculiar event that happened with my Celica was in 1996 when my mother was :driving on the 101 freeway. She was near capitol records and Universal Studios heading to her hair dresser and was at the very right lane as she was getting ready to exit. Without warning her tires suddenly blew at the left passenger side and she spun out of control 3-4 times over 4 lanes. My mother was so scared, she let go of the steering wheel and brakes and basically left the controls alone. But for some reason the car ceased from spinning, and ended up at the very last lane. The fast lane, facing opposite of traffic. No damage to the body anywhere. A cop passing by stopped to help. Miraculously there was no traffic nearby in a usual traffic area. This car practically saved her life.

Now you can see why I wouldn't trade this beauty for anything and how it has kept the family living :D And the car is still with us to this day, kept in good hands.

The car fresh from the dealer.

I'd like to post these pictures in Flatliner's "Post first pictures of you and your car" thread but forums says it isn't available. But Here are some pictures that still surprises and puts a smile to my face every time I look at them.

Me and this car....we go way back.

We had that previa too, also alot of memories and that Truck was ours too, it was stick, something my mom doesn't drive haha but my dad. 22RE engine I bet? Mmmm : :cool
    [IMG]
    Shinyyyyy.
It's the beauty of it all.

    Where's Celica?

Picture of my uncle, cousins and....

Here's a more difficult one :hehe
    [IMG]

    Oh we cooler than cool.
I'm the one on the. left I still have that porsche as well :mrgreen Of course not in the best condition, but it still runs.

On to the present. Plans, plans, plans. Call me weird and crazy, but there's not one moment where I don't think about my car. And I have a girlfriend! A very beautiful one I might add. But I really want to fix this car up. Now call me insane, because I want to keep it's Rally bloodline, that's installing fulltime 4WD, but I also want to integrate a switch to enable RWD, which I will figure out I don't know how soon. I also want to drop in one of Toyota's ten best engines it's a 1UZ-FE V8 Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC400 engine into my car. Widen the whole body VERY similar to Hideki's pictures on alltrac.net.

When I found these pictures I was so excited to see someone had already tried it. And it looked amazing. Not much of a fan of what they did to the front and rear bumpers though.

I'm gonna have to change everything, to compensate for the power. I was originally gonna do a mid-engine with the 1UZ but I'm gonna have to venture into that after I finish college.

Recently changed, the suspension, nothing expensive just driveablility, changed the water pump due to a seized previous one that stalled my car, and some other minor things. So yes, that is the story. Hope you all enjoyed it.
    Happy driving :driving

James, I loved reading your story. It's truely fantastic that your mother was a Celica enthusiast. That photo of you as a baby next to the Celica.........who would've thought it, all these years later you'd be the proud owner. All credit to your wonderful mother. She must've felt some positive vibes to have kept it after the accident, I know I probably wouldn't want to.

Thanks Rick :D Although the clear coat is fading in many parts, she really needs a paint job haha. Though there are some areas where all it needs is a wax and is good as new. Glad you enjoyed my story!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! And yes never thought I would end up with this much passion in these cars. They kept it all these years for me to drive. Most people would sell their old cars, but I'm grateful that they didn't sell this beaut. Fun car to drive and a pleasure!

Are you studying car mechanics and car design , or is it just a interest ?

Re: Hello from SoCal! Again![New pics!]

I plan on studying both, car design is of major interest to me. But although, I'm currently majoring in nursing in college. Registered Nursing is a very good field that will never fall to shortages of positions. Salary in RN is very good as well. I will most likely be financially demanding to compensate for what I will be doing in the future and that is car design and engineering/mechanic. Kinda like Chip Foose. I've been interested and drawing cars all my life. Although I was originally going to major in auto technology, it just doesn't have the quick financial security I'm looking for. Mechanics make more money out of more experience taking years and years before acquiring a good salary, I've been told and observed many times. But if I finish RN, which I will probably finish in 2014 or 15, right out of college I will earn upwards of +$35 USD an hr. Not only that if I also finish my Bachelor's Degree, which is another 2 years, I will earn upwards of +$45! There I can start my dream and surround myself with it, that is designing/engineering automobiles :)

So give me a few years, I surely will be posting my builds here.

If God let be, that is the plan.

    More eye candy.

Had to post pics that were more recent.

The below picture I was checkin out the CV boots 2 days ago. Found out the problem, won't be drivin Alexis for a bit.
You can see the status of the paint in these pictures. Very recently the clear coat went downhill in 2007 and all hell broke loose from there. Impossible for me to wax the car and make the whole car look flawless like she used to :cry

Rear spoiler has been on for about 4 months now I think? Yes, I know, the left side is missing. Went to the scrap yard and didn't expect to find any spoilers. When I found this silver one with a broken left piece I was excited, and quickly got to removing. Didn't have any time to look for other spoilers. Hopefully sometime this month I will go.

Hey man, I really enjoyed your story. You guys have really kept that car nice, a sure way to tell is that front
valance. Yours looks really nice and that thing is usually shredded and the paint is nice for the age of the car
especially if it has sat outside for the past 22 years. Don't ever let it go, I said it 20 years ago and I'll say it again,
one day these cars will be considered true classics.

Yes it has done reasonbly well, considering the paintwork is 20 odd years old and been sat outside. Sounds like you're a young man with many talents, nursing, mechanics, drawing............can you do the Rubiks Cube ? :naughty

    Re: Hello from SoCal! Again!

Glad you enjoyed :D Won't ever let it go my friend. If anything I want this to be one of those Gems in the family you know? Yes I see many valances shredded too. I try aiming to keep it's shiny look, I try hydrating the plastic with a little bit of armor all tire shine gel. Works wonders. I hear this car being called a classic already and it's already a timeless piece automotive design. And quite easily was the best looking WRC of the 80's. IMO the design looks ahead of its time, beautiful cars.

Yes the paint is alright. If I knew it was gonna end up this way so fast I would covered the car to protect it from the sun :cry It's alright haha. No I can't do the Rubix cube haha, but I will try to succeed at my dreams. Sounds a bit kiddish, but you gotta have a hopes and goals. :cheers

Haha nice, when I found Alexis at the very right I got all excited haha. Wish I had more pictures

    Re: Hello from SoCal! Again!

OMG! my Celica's history is somewhat similar to yours. My dad bought the car brand new in like '88 or something like that. (the car's an '89) Dad was also an immigrant, but came from Vietnam (I'm Viet). His first car was actually a Pinto, then a Celica, then another Celica (I think, I forget how many he had), then the ST162. My dad now drives an '10 Escape Hybrid... :byodood .
Long story short, st162 started overheating, and dad wanted to donate/throw away the car. I, being a car lover, begged him to give it to me, and after lotsa nagging, I got the Celica as my first car. :) (Also the car I learned how to drive stick on)
Gonna be giving her a good bath tomorrow (or technically today since I'm writing this at 12:30am) since I just finished my finals a few hours ago. :D

As for special memories with the car, the only thing I can really recall (at the moment) was my dad taking me to the hospital in that car, after I cracked my head open from falling off one of those baby chair things. :eek5 (One of my few baby memories. lol)

My car's also been parked outside for most of its life, although my paint seems to have taken less sun damage(Maybe it's because my car's white. haha, our cars are opposites!)

My original plan was to wait til I fixed up my car before posting it here, but you sir have just inspired me to go make a thread ASAP. lol

Maybe, if I ever fix my overheating problem or get a 3sgte, we could someday meet up halfway or something and chill. :) It'll be nice to see a '162 enthusiast for a change. ;)

    Re: Hello from SoCal! Again!

    @ Thaifighter

Awesome bro! We both have had these cars for more than 18 years haha. And the memory about you and your head, well atleast you remember the car. One fond memory I had with this car I think I was like 6, cop pulled us over I was in the front seat, I'm guessing the "no minors" in the front rule wasn't in play yet. Plus the car doesn't have airbags.

My car's under a car cover as of now. Haven't driven her in 2 weeks :sad Gonna go to the yards to grab some CVs,half shafts and axels and whatnot. Also some goodies like window trims etc to replace. Yeah mine has been parked outside as well, although as you saw in the pictures, the car recent;y took some heavy sun damage. Puzzles me as to why :aargh . Ah well I have to baby the engine now. Seems like it's on its way out. I'm just saving up to put a Lexus 1UZ-FE V8 engine. Why? It's lighter than a 2JZ and has more HP stock, drinks as much if not more than the 2JZ and sounds awesome! Only drawback is everything has to be changed. and Custom mounts. haha Oh well. I will have it soon!

Haha go for it! Make a thread. Let's see some more history lol

Yeah we need to have a meet! I know cliffmeister is 15 mins away from downtown LA, I'm 30 mins away and you're in san diego. PhantomJDM and KevinYang are in California too, but a bit farther. Us going for a cruise and meet would be so chill. If I open up a garage everyone (who is ST16X) is welcome!!!

When I first saw your plans with the 1UZFE swap, I immediately thought of this one youtube video where this person edited the video so that it sounded like he had a V8 in his '162.
then I realized that it was your video. :shock lol
Haha, cliffmeister is on this forum too? I've only seen him on the Celispeed forum so far. (Actually, I first met him there.) Turns out we have similar plans for our Celica's: Slam the cars on some nice, low offset wheels.

1UZ swap will be sick! Did you get the inspiration from the converted ST185 on youtube?

    @CelicaSteve

Yes! My Celicalitus just hit another level! :D Spent a few hours giving my car TLC today. Would've cleaned more, but mom forced me to go shopping (at an electronics store). :aargh (Which usually would make me happy, but at the moment, there's nothing I want to buy except parts for my beloved Celica.)
Hope I can get my car running reliably and put some mods on it soon... :crazy I want to actually drive to car meets for once. :sad5
