Bearings are definitely needing to be replaced; knew that  .

Are the piston squirters those listen brass pipes below the cylinder wall? If so, will do.

The cylinder walls still have those cross-hatching marks; just can't see them in the photo's.

I'll be cleaning up everything.

2nd, hot tank the block, then measure @ top middle and bottom of the cylinder, to determine taper. measure in like a peace symbol at the same spots to determine out of round. hone it out, i think its a 60^ crosshatch pattern your looking for. your going to blow a bit on that crank, if shes tapered, barreled, or hourglassed, shes pretty well screwed, and DONT let anything touch those journals. a finger nail can fuck them....

    Update:

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. Hmm, well, where to begin? As you guys may or may not know I now live with my brother and for the last 2 months he hasn't gotten any work (works at Canada Post) so I have had to work 4-6 days a week to keep the bills paid and obviously go to school at the same time. Since I was working so much I had to focus on the only course needed to graduate: English 12. That means I had to drop Mechanics 12, which meant that I could no longer work on my engine; which sucked.

Well I have since graduated; finally. I thought I would never make it, really hard to concentrate when you don't give a f*** about what you're being taught and having to write. I did however get the engine block sandblasted so it's a bit of an update on the engine though far from completion.

When I got the engine I was intending to take it all apart, rebuild it, swap it in and have it ready for the time I graduated; but that obviously didn't happen. So now instead of rebuilding it with the stock internals (no longer have a time limit), I have decided to build it up right; new forged pistons/rods, new cams (mine are rusted to sh**), new crank (same condition as cams), paint everything still, etc. etc.

About 2 weeks ago I had a bit of extra money (brother started to get shifts) so I decided to buy a little beater for camping this summer; I really need to get the hell out of Kamloops and spend some much needed time at the lake and in the great outdoors in general. So I bought myself a '90 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 5-Speed. Of course I had to buy a Toyota; too be honest (don't hate me for saying this but...) I can't even look at another vehicle if it isn't a Toyota. I just f'n love them. The styling, quality, etc. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I drive them; lol.

So the future plans are to work a decent amount over the summer. Move to Vancouver at the end of August to go to school at BCIT in Burnaby. I am taking a Sponsored Toyota Automotive class there. After I complete that I'll hopefully take on an apprenticeship at a Toyota shop and slowly gain more knowledge and experience. I want to become a Toyota Master Tech. That is my dream; and I'll work my a** off to get there.

Oh and if you thought I was/is going to sell my Celica, then you sir are a fool. I freaking love my car and will never part with it. Though right now I have parked it and during university and my apprenticeship time (4years) I will slowly build it up. My plans are to strip the whole car right down to the frame and re-build/re-paint etc. everything on it. It will be my short term/long term project. I have SO many ideas for the car that it would take a huge list to show them all. I just read the post about later-gen Celica owners and Toyota fans a-like hating on the 4th gen Celica's so much that it has inspired me ever more to build my car up.

 , okay well if you managed to read through all that, I thought I'd post some pictures of my newly acquired 4Runner.

Sitting behind my Celica...Oh how I miss driving it. :(
    [IMG]

These pictures are from today after working a 10.5 hour shift. It's in Honda's parking lot; I thought we'd mess around in it.

The '93 Toyota pickup is a buddy of mines. He bought it on the same day I got my 4Runner; I made him buy a 5-speed and taught him how to drive it. Lol, when he bought it though he didn't even know how to drive a manual but after a few lessons he was driving on main roads. I guess I must be a good teacher.

Lol, permanent drag marks caused by the tow hitch dragging as I went up the hill; woopdi doo though.

This picture is of the engine and how it sits at the moment.

    The sandblasted block.

Well, I guess that about does it for now. I will continue to contribute to the forums and post updates and photo's whenever I can. To the mods; I saw the post about helping to fund money towards the site and I would be honored to do so. I don't know where I'd be with all your guy's help; especially you Jon. I get paid this week so I'll send some money your way mods.

    Cheers for now guys!!! ;)

lol Jon, you crack me up. Yeah, I had to take a specialty class. lol that idea about the v6 celica alltrac twin turbo idea is great...though if you know anything about the 3vze engine...well lets just say its a crapper...terrible power/gas mileage, problem ridden. Example: the block is cast iron and the head is aluminum so they expand at different temperatures making it prone to head gasket problems...its terrible but still better than a lot of engines out there.

the gte is the same way buddy lol almost every old engine is iron block aluminum head. but i dont know much about the 4 runners, their not my thing. toyota is not known for their earlier v6s. i think the 85 4-runner sr5 came turbo'd or super'ed out of the box dont know which one though, i dont pay enough attention hahah. and man i am jealous, that block looks killer... like god damn.. the only thing is, blaster sand gets EVERYWHERE. your going to need to wash and wash and wash that thing. inside and out, spraying through the oil galleries and all. then wipe it good so it doesnt rust away.

Yep Jon, the 85 4runner did come with a factory turbo charged engine. It's a 22R-TE; off the 22R-E platform. But holy hell there are rare as fuck. If you were to find one then you better hope to hell you have connections for parts because they are so scarce. That is what I have learned anyway.

Yeah I taped off every oil hole, the WHOLE underside and top etc. so there shouldn't be any sand inside but ill be sure to clean it out really good.

Yeah it was definitely about time to do an update, finally got 2 days off.

Good to hear from you matey, glad you still sticking with the plan, Hope we can all help you with the long term plan to see you back behind the wheel of your celica.

We didn't get the 4runners in the UK in the 80s, are they based at all on the bigger land cruisers of that time?
Nice daily hack though, looks good fun :D

and to echo the points, clean and clean and clean that block.

I had a rear axle and LSD for a capri sandblasted and didn't do a proper job of cleaning it once I got it back, figuring the tape etc was good enough, and I only got 700 miles outa the thing before it started singing like a cat with its nuts in a vice. :D

Thanks bud. Yeah I hope to get it better road worthy soon and if I can afford it have two DD.

Yeah the UK didn't get the 4runners but I believe they got the Hilux Surf like the Japanese market did. It's basically the same vehicle but obviously RHD, choices of different diesel engines, and a little bit of different styling. And to my knowledge the landcruiser is built on a completely different platform; not completely sure though.

Yeah I'll definitely clean the heck out of the block as well as all the other parts; well most of the parts I'll be buying brand new...water pump, oil pump, etc. etc.

hilux surf rings some bells, think they were import only thou.

peace off mind with all new parts, it takes a while, but its worth it. esp as parts for our cars are not getting any younger / or re made in vast quanitites. :D

Yeah the Hilux Surf were all built in Japan and distributed to a few different countries; they weren't built in any other country.

It will be peace of mind with all new parts but like you said it'll be quite expensive; doesn't help that'll be only using OEM parts...well for the most part anyway. Though if I get my Celica road worthy I'll be happy with that atleast, and the engine will become the long term project instead of the whole car...unless I rip the whole car down to the frame that is.

i wouldnt have thought the difference in OEM and after market bits would be that grater difference, you can get some real bargains over the net if you know what your looking for, cheaper to do it once than twice to :).
either way your years ahead of my convertion lol

Yeah I guess if you get high quality parts than it's fine but there are a lot of crap no name brands out there. I guess you just have to look around and know what you're getting.

    Little update today:

I got the Cruise control removed from the Celica. Kept all the buttons though; just took out the main stuff.

    Few pictures:

Now onto the EGR. Don't need it so it's going too. That'll be done next week though. I do a write-up on it too probably; been searching every website for info and found some so I'm going to attempt it. I'm not just going to block it off; I'm going to take everything out including the charcoal canister.

leave the charcoal canister in man. thats part of the evap sys. (evaporative emissions system), it pretty much keeps fumes in the canister when the engines not on (as per the vent tube for the gas tank), then when started its burned into the engine. just pull the module and the vacuum modulator. then your golden.

Yeah I was thinking about taking it all out, there's a post about it on alltrac.net. You just take those hose from the charcoal canister and run it out the fender and have a check(I think that's what it's called) valve at the end and even have a little mini fuel filter in the line. Looked at it last night and there is even a little hole on the inside of the fender by the charcoal canister and it even has a little removable plug for it...go figure

Not sure yet though; just removing any unnecessary crap from the engine bay that isn't truly needed. Got some cool ideas on how to clean up the engine bay ;) .

well imo, id want to get those fumes all to myself. fuck letting them go in the air, id say burn them up in the engine. haha but thats just me. you can always tuck the charcoal canister???
