we also removed all the factory resistors. now i have direct feed to the injectors (only works with certain stand alone systems, 2.5 ohm injectors) and a single stage (12v constant instead of 9-12 switched) fuel pump. should make things easier to tune.

Installed Vaccum Lines and Water Lines. Sorry guys, no more pretty braided crap. All regular black. And installed Flywheel, Clutch and Pressure Plate.

I have pics, but they will have to wait. Stupid Work computer is not cooperating with me.

ok a handful of pics here. i installed the ugliest transmission possible but it works. also tapped hte intake for the temp sensor, added a vacuum port, a bunch of brackets (had to grind the hell out of the alternator bracket to clear the manifold
the pics are a bit mixed up

    just a couple notes:
about an inch of clearence to the radiator.
i'm a retard and didn't order pigtails for the injectors (for some reason i thought we had bosche plugs, we don't, we have denso)
holy pain in the ass with pretty stuff
there is millimeters of clearence to the strut brace. i'll see if i have to modify that later
my dog likes sniffing stinky things, like shoes
mike and matt are big helps, huge helps
i have no idea how or where to mount the wastegate
the fuel pressure gauge is nine miles away but it fit
i hate working with an line
i f'ed up wiring the fuel pump
the dsm fuel banjo bolt didn't work at all.

    aside from that freaking sweet

a quick beginning and end to todays progress. it had a total running time of 30 seconds. then locked up the bottom end. i will NOT go into further detail until i route out the problem.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

so the diagnosis is complete and i'm only waiting on 1 part now.
the bearings were wrong material. too weak for the GTE motor. my fault for not checking.
the mains were way over torqued. my fault for taking somebody elses word on it.
the oil pump does not work. not my fault but ATS made right on it.

so all in all it's safe to say i'm a retard. a good learning experience but it's safe to say i'm smarter now and i've learned more than i cared to. all in all when i finally get it together it'll be a monster...again.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

    lol
dyno went good. 335whp 315ft/lbs torque at 18psi
now to fix all the issues with it. she should have pulled a lot closer to 400 but the current issues are bogging her down. new plugs and ignitor should fix a ton of that. i had to pull out a lot of timing.
tvis is not working which kills some of the torque. my torque curve and hp curve were almost on top of each other.
and i still need to reshim the lifters which may have cause some of the knock i was seeing.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

never in my life would i have imagined this problem.
my cooling system is working so good that it's closing the thermostat.
hence coolant into the head is cold and out of the head is 220 degrees.

so i tried putting in a low temp thermostat. that didn't help much at all. so now i get to install a nylon restrictor plate and screw around with getting the hole diameter correct. oh goodie.

BTW the fans are freaking awesome. not the issue though. waste of 300 dollars between the fans and the thermostat.
conclusion: 205 koyo rad, thermal wrapped coolant hard lines, all the nice work i've done to keep the turbo heat away, ect... = overkill. if i turn the fans on the car gets hotter!

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

so stubborn cooling issues fixed. now i need to fix the driver door hinges and door panel. fix the hot pipe for the intercooler. it's hitting something and it's really annoying. i still need to wrap that pipe. still need to reshim the valves and install the tvis spacer. then i get to figure out why the car stalls when it feels like. i've got the strangest vibration in the car. i really think it's the axles. so new axles (could use it anyways). it never ends.

on a good note i double checked the timing 9 degrees advance. sweet. i like digital guns. then i loaded the new timing map and remapped the coolant temp trim. so that's done. pulls mucho harder now. also sweet. oh and i decided to win at a stop light today. the car did break traction!! woohoo. i didn't launch it and i didn't speed shift into 2nd or 3rd but no wheel spin! i was amazed.

i do like the looks i get and how people just stay away or out of the way. good to be different and loud and low and looking like a missile from behind the car. lol.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

and just ordered brand new axles.

just remembered still have to install driving lights. one thing after the other.
edit: and install the new fuel pressure gauge. and install the drivers side frame connector. and by the time i get all that done my roll cage will be here. more money and parts then time.

And i thought I had a big job list. :)

what type of cage you going for? bolt in or weld, few guys in the UK have adapted a 185 one, as its cheaper.
What happened to the door and the door hinge?

Love how easy it is to sort things with stand alone ECUs, Cool that its not breaking traction, I guess thats the biggest battle for you on the strip, managing the wheels spin? Have you ever thought about some kind of launch control for it?

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

i got a turbo this big to assist in drag traction. it will not go full boost in 1st or 2nd gear. launch control would be a bad thing as it would spool the turbo. besides i like the randomness of foot launching. as for the cage i'm welding in an autopower cage.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

and weird vibration found and fixed. passenger side axle carrier bearing is shot. that may also explain the 18% drivetrain loss. sweet. i also flushed the trans on accident. lol. so new fluid in the trans. then i fixed the funny rattles in the front end.

i must say the new maxdrive axles are very different looking. thicker axles, larger hubs and instead of the triangle shaped hubs they are round. they look much nicer and a bit beafier.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

and sheered the main shaft of the trans at the drag strip. bummer. so here is the current parts list that will be here in the next couple days
99 e153 non lsd solara trans
92 mr2t axle stubs and carrier bearing support
    90 camry v6 outer axles

    at the shop
gen 4 e153 top and rear mount, possibly shifter cable bracket. good times.

Re: 87GTS hybrid FWD turbo "Nemesis"

All part of the tuning process I suppose, but gutted that you didn't get even a single run.

    Whats a solara?

I take it these parts are all an upgrade over the current set up, any other benefits / disadvantages?

Have you ever sheered the main shaft before?? At least you know that your producing plenty of torque :)
