Went to start assembling the timing belt stuff and realized that I never bought a new tensioner...:facepalm Completely forgot about it since the Gen2 uses something different than the Gen1's that Im used to.

So went on to twos'rus http://twosrus.com/catalog/index.php and ordered one plus some other goodies. Really fast turnaround. I ordered it last night and they had it shipped out today. I also forgot to add something, and they were really quick on getting it added in. Pretty good service if you ask me. I ordered their anodized bolt kit for my valve cover and pretty anxious to see how that turns out.

My electronics are supposed to be here this week and Im looking forward to getting all that setup as well. Its all starting to come together now...its scary.

As long as it gets here no worries. I appreciate you getting the deal done. It will just be extra motivation(from the wife as well) to have it all sitting here and not installed to get it installed.

On to some other news, I received my parts from TwosRus today. Awesome stuff, I ordered it Sunday Night and it got here Today. Total of 3 days. New timing belt tensioner, tensioner install kit, oil level block off plate(which Im gonna drill and tap for a sensor), dizzy rebuilt kit and a set of anodized valve cover bolts. If I didnt work 16 hours today I would be out wrenching, but I landed in the easy chair and I aint moving except to head to bed.

So got a little more accomplished tonight. The last few nights that I had in the garage was working on replacing the entire front end of our 95 2500 Suburban..that put a dent into wrenching on the Celi.

Got the timing belt done. Let me tell you, the Gen 2 GTE Timing belt tensioner is a Frigging PITA! You have to have a third hand to do everything that the BGB says to set it.

    Anyways its done and setup.

Got the valve cover all back together and installed with my new anodized bolt kit from twosrus. Its actually starting to look like a motor.

The theory behind them is interesting.. Removing the harmonic balancer or damper is bad for the lower end. Understandable on a stock motor and I had this pulley on my JDM GE but probably not long enough until the bad piston went. So I dont know if on an unbalanced bottom end if it caused problems.... But since my entire bottom end on this block was balanced it shouldnt be an issue.

And thanks, its been a long time coming. Trust me its been a killer to see my girl just sitting for the last 4 years or so with nothing done to it. So Im bound and determined to at least get it running again...

do be careful with that ignitor unit. while setting up the car do NOT have that plugged in. also do NOT hot plug it (power on and plug it in). best advise i can give.

Well, I pretty much fell off the face of the planet for the past month and a half. Having a all my parts and garage but absolutely no time to work on the celi. On top of that, I busted a stud off in the head that I had to drill out and make to a bigger size was utterly frustrating. Work has slammed me for about 70-80 hours a week, its finally slowing down so hopefully Ill have some pics up soon of some more progress.

Dont worry about the delay, happens to the best of us!

I bet you feel more inspired to do some serious work on the car now though eh?

Ok. So had some time to wrench on the car(although time is still in short supply lately). But nevertheless, every little bit helps.

Fitted my WolfKatz Top Feed Injector rail and new injectors.
Got the water lines on the front fitted and test fitted all the turbo stuff. I have to order a few minor parts from the dealer to finish it all up.

I also gutted my TVIS, ground out the centers and its ready to head off to a friend of mine who TIG welds a hell of alot better than I do to fill in the holes where the butterfly shafts went. Once it comes back Ill finish the fine grinding and polishing.

I was wondering where you went?
Good stuff you got there, I got my ST185 head but realised the injectors and rail are different and also the cam tensioner is different.

Please post some pics of your injectors/rail and tensioner setup, I hope those injectors are available in smaller sizes as the gen1 rail fits but the bolt angles are waay different

Be gratefull for the work/money, I lost my job and at this rate will probably have to sell my socks to buy noodles :(

I'd like a copy of your excel sheet if possible?
Does the shimless size equal the total gap? ie I could measure a stock bucket & shim and then replace it with a shimless of the same size?

As requested, here is some more pics of the WolfKatz Top Feed Fuel Rail. This is for Gen 2 only, the injectors are 880cc Delphi.

And believe me Im grateful for the job, theres plenty of people out of work. But unfortunately the company uses that to that their advantage to really abuse us. Their feelings are, if we dont like it, quit and they will find someone else.

Heres a shot of my spreadsheet. Hopefully it makes sense. I did end up having to move a few around. So apparently once everything settled back in some things had changed. Or I made some incorrect measurements. Unfortunately, I didnt document which onces I had to change the bucket on. Im glad I bought a few extras of different sizes.

And yes, the total size of the shim and bucket together is what equals out to the shimless bucket size.

    Bucket.jpg

Heres what I ended up buying.

Thanks, looks like the gen2/3 GTE tensioners are the same?

I'd like a copy of the spreadsheet to experiment with, please? - magoo@mailbox.co.za

Ok. So Im waiting on parts from the Toyo dealer, I decided to jump back over on the Tranny teardown project. A built motor isnt gonna do me any good with out a good tranny. Before I popped my motor I was having real troubles with 2nd gear grinding all the time. I attempted to adjust the shifter with no avail, so I just figured the tranny was toast.

So after I get it about 50% a part I start to get the feeling that someone had this apart already and possibly rebuilt. The gasket on the cover didnt look factory. Unless Im missing something, I dont see any obvious wear to any of the syncro gears or any gears for that matter. The thing is super clean on the inside. Im really starting to wonder if it was just out of adjustment.

So I dont think I should go any farther with the teardown at this point, although without having measured any clearances yet, Im up in the air about it. I open for opinions since this is the first gearbox Ive ever tore into.
