Ok, so as promised this is the work that i did last weekend, i didnt get to do anything this weekend because i spent the whole day saturday building a chicken coop for my grandmother and im now crippled... but anyway..

i removed the two top clamps off the rad, and of course one bolt sheered on me... What are the odds. also removed the plastic shield from underneath the car.

and now it was time to drain the coolant, the woman im living with at the moment works in a deli in a shop so i have lots of containers for putting parts into and a few of these hell-mans buckets so i used one to collect coolant, to remove the coolant you need to remover the bottom pipe on the rad with a bucket underneath.

remember to take off the lid of the rad to make it come out a little faster, and then remove the pipe at the top of the rad.

you can then pull the top coolant hose off the engine its located underneath the dizzy, i use a vice grip for my clips because i dont have jubaliee clips, just spring clips but ill change this when i get the engine put back in.( they can be tighter and more even pressure)

all thats left is to disconnect the fan plug on the rad and then the rad can be removed.

now, my rad is in a very sorry state and i think i will be upgrading to the alu rad i can see people buying on ebay, plus the alu rad is dam sexy. The fan could do with a bit of paint too.

I had a fast battery mount made using two pieces of steel and all under neath was rusty so it had to go, i will be relocating the battery to the rear of the car anyway and cleaning up that area... might put a small tool kit holder in its place for breakdowns etc...

and now the overflow bottle for the rad can be removed, its just two 10mm bolts easily removed.

so now the front of the car looks like this! I'm getting there, slowly, but getting there...

    Nice job Sean !

Did you know there is an official drain at the bottom of your radiator? :p

Your overflow tank looks strange, complete different from mine, both st165 as ST162..

Damn that’s a lot of surface rust on your car…and underneath the battery…where did all the metal go?? J

I bought a new standard radiator and put 2 fans on it with the 3sge, that cooled super ! Bought it at a radiator store, not oem though ;). Perfect fit !

Ps, your coolant looks real dirty… remember to flush everything !!

i knew there was a drain but because i was removing the rad i just thought id pull the pipe instead, if i was flushing the system i would have used the drain. the problem i had was the overflow tank spilt the coolant all over the battery base when i was having HG trouble and that caused the rust to form.but it will all be grand! i plan on getting a longer hose for the overflow when i put it back in and put it going dtraight to the ground so if there is any excess coolant it will go to the ground not all over my car.

The coolant is good! looks dirty but actually not that bad, but saying that it will be replaced with some fresh stuff.

I was looking for a second fan to put onto my rad because with one rad its constantly running, which is a bitch... but there all things that need seeing too!

    Strange, yes.
And on the wrong side. Usually, this tank is located near the alternator. Not under the battery :scratch
Is it because it's a UK car (RHD), or because it's equipped with ABS?

    My engine (french LHD) :

    The radiator look different too.
And what's the big black hose above the timing gear cover??

Your coolant looks rank :byodood Definitely flush everything out! Open the heating hoses and flush them too.

Overflowing to the street might not be such a good idea as the overflow bottle is there not only to catch overflow, but to suck extra coolant into the radiator when it's needed.
You could of course run an overflow hose from the top of the bottle to the ground, that would solve your problem  Pretty sure that's how our regular ones work.

Looks like you're in a for some fun restoring your celi, wish I had the chance to do more with my parts car before we moved.

    aaron.

the coolant overflow is weird cuz he has abs, iirc rick's square one has the overflow bottle near the battery area as well cuz he has abs

the weird pipe above the timing gear cover is for the power steering lines, the ABS lines are in the way of where they normally go

    Weird
You have a Corona radiator, it has no drain, a fan switch and the top hose is too close to the exhaust
I also have that ugly ps hose on my non ABS car, plse somebody got one spare like Oxi's?
My car has a fusebox where your overflow bottle sits, I'll check on Fernando's JDM ABS car

Auto and manual radiators, both have a drain on the battery side
    [IMG]

Fan fusebox sits in front of the battery, as does Oxi's LHD
    [IMG]

The &$#@ ugly get-in-the-way ps hose I hate and want gone forever
I was even thinking of moving the bottle to the firewall - help
    [IMG]

ABS shouldn't affect overflow location as the other type sits on this red bracket well forward of the ABS - I see your fusebox lives there though

that getintheway ps hose seems to live there if there's something in the way...
upon looking at people's engine bays, it's the RHD brake fluid bottle that's in the way of the "hidden" ps hose that i have and most LHD guys. the only exception has been rick's LHD abs car which also has that getintheway hose

Kevin, your PS bottle is weird too. Not the common black and round one. Is it stock? A TEMS specification?
Another oddity, Sean's radiator fan has 5 blades, but usually, the st162 3SGE fan has only 4 blades, no?

Yes Celi has 4 fan blades
Sean has a Corona radiator, I had one but the hose is too close to the GE exhaust
    The p/s bottle/bracket I swapped from a ST202
Fernandos is the same as Sean's apart from the radiator

OK for the PS bottle swap, but regarding the Corona radiator, cause to the overflow hose location, it's evident that it's not an original Toyota variation...
More probably a precedent owner adaptation

Where Sean's ABS system is, I have a Speed Actuator. No one here has one?

Here is a picture of a 1989 LHD french domestic market, w/ABS.

As said by eNtraxGT88, all ABS equipped st162 seem to have their overflow tank on the battery side and the fuse box on the alternator side.
With a stock st162 radiator, the hose is not so close to the exhaust header, unlike Seank's Corona radiator...
