we dont get corona's here.... that makes it even wierder, but, carina's we did get! probably the same...

can i just confirm that everyone agrees i should get a new rad?

Corona = Carina, get yourself an alu radiator when you can. Less hassles with top tanks cracking
Here's the diesel Corona rad I had, just cleared the gen1 exhaust but the gen2 is way too close

    Loom removing

So my big plan for today was to remove the bonnet, but when i got out to the car i wasn't feeling bad at all so i took advantage and got a good bit done, (considering) ... i started off by removing the bolts from the hinges, and leaving one loose one in each side so that the bonnet wouldn't go and fall and smash the windscreen, and one bolt was giving me hassle to i re-tightened and loosened a quarter turn looser each time and a shot of WD-40 and all was good in the world again! silly me forgot to remove the window squirter hose before i loosened the bonnet so it make it a small bit awkward.

    all hidden and stored away!

so at this stage I was feeling happy to be working on the car and I wanted to do some more so I decided I was going to remove the old alarm system that was put into it, there was two alarms by the looks of things...
but I had already removed the first one a few years back now it was just this one, the funny thing about it was it was fitted in 1989, I was wondering if it was a factory option but as I seen the wiring I instantly knew NO!

this was the guarantee sticker on it

so i removed it from its bracket and then went on to remove the bracket, a shot of WD-40 goes a long way!

followed the wiring from the alarm to the inside of the car to see this...and i started to remove it...

once this was removed I removed off the brace across the shocks... no awards here for finding out how to remove it..but ill show you guys anyway! :p
    [IMG]

so I wanted to remove the engine loom from inside the car also which is just a case of opening the connectors onto the ECU and the relay which is beside it then opening these two bolts and then pull the loom through.

does anybody else have this sticker... have i been sitting in a cancer car for the last few years? and if somebody knows were the the stuff is tell me so i can remove it!

so i wanted to remove the loom on the battery side of the car ( id say passenger but people will be giving out that don't realise we drive on the other side here) so i had a group of connections like this and it was just a case of push or lift the clip with a screwdriver and then PULL!

bottom of the fusebox is all numbered, handy!

And now all the looms are free of one another, if you have abs you will have to remove this connector from under the wings.

i see have some furry little friends looking around my car, bit of a cleanup needed!

and then just as i get a box to put parts in......

Back to the loom, i had to remove this earth strop off the engine to remove the earthing cable
    [IMG]

and there was also a few components left on the battery side that needed to be removed for the loom to come free, i decided not to disconnect anything that i was going to remove, if i was removing it then i could sort it out later. if you can get behind a bolt a shot of WD-40 always helps... esp with the smaller bolts. i also like to place the bolt back where it was originally so i know what im working with.

    Now, all clean that side.

Removed the cover over the gearbox mount.

Removed the plastic at the bottom of the engine, 5 bolts, very easy to see.

Now to remove the loom on the drivers side was a bit more awkward, i had to remove the washer bottle and the ABS pump, i probably could have got around doing that but i had to remove them anyway. to remove the bottle was tricky becasue theres one bolt holding it underneath the ABS pump. thanks toyota. Removing the abs pump was slightly awkward, i needed to oosed the pipes with a vice grip and then it was a case of removing two bolts size 12 from inside the bay and one 14mm under the wheel arch
    [IMG]

all clear and looking good so far,
    [IMG]

removing the look on our drivers side was a bit more awkward, theres a bolt at the bottom of the fusebox holding it in place, remove this and remove the bottom of the steering cover and the speakerbox to give you more room, ther clips popped out ok, apart from one, thta one was a bitch beside the circut breaker...

you need to disconnect the wiring near the PS hose also to remove this loom and its all free!

So guys i was thinking about getting the willwoods 4pots if mafix can get the brackets made, so i was wondering, yay or nay on keeping the ABS?

    Nice work !

I haven't had abs on a 4th gen but from what I heard about it and also the 5th gen the abs sucks compared to modern abs. As I see the rusty connections it might be an idea to get rid of it :).

I'd keep the ABS, it's a pain but worthwhile I think

Asbestos doesn't cause cancer but it does f/up your lungs, I bet those pads are long gone anyway

Store the bonnet on it's side or the lip may get bent

I'd like to see your oil cooler setup and the adaptor on the block as well as that steel p/s bottle hose.

You're about to find out how much room a car can take up:ack2

    :ugh

the bonnet is left on a pile of soft cardboard it should be fine! even enough weight, it was the only way it would fit in the corner...
i have a spare adapter for an oil cooler i think, ill see if i can route it out somewhere... are you on about the cooling pipes?

i found out already, and its a shitload! bit im going to do it in bits, so as soon as the front is fully stripped and welded im going to paint the bay and then put back on bonnet , wings , bumper , loom etc etc

Onya Sean, nice to see your having some good days health wise. Your in-depth running commentary is amusing............... and of course informative :fingersx

Keep your ABS, a properly functioning one can have it's benefits, I certainly appreciate mine.

I nearly forgot to ask, how's your new back brace ?, do you need to wear it when............... oh never mind :ewink

Thanks for the compliment Steve, the weather here is starting to pick up... so i plan on getting a fair bit done next weekend also if it holds out like its been!

cheers spiderguy! im over the moon, i think the wethear helps alot, everyones happy so you instantly feel better. theres one other issue about my ABS, i need to try and find 1 more sensor... but i think i have one on my other car.
the back brace is brilliant, i would have just taken off the bonnet yesterday if i didnt have it and that would be that, but it gives some normality to my life

i dont think its the pant, the paint is oil based, i knew toyota used asbestor in the brake pads and in some of the original HG, but they removed the asbestos HG from the toyota supras not sure what the celicas had, i was wondering would it be in the sound deading material...

kinda what i would think. you'd have to take a good look at how its all tied into the rest of the system to make sure it wont effect anything if you remove it. may want to cross reference stuff like booster p/n's.

-id be willing to bet its the sound deadning stuff that has asbestos. nice to know after ive removed it out of 2 cars.

Exactly..... just leave it and it may just save your/s life one day....... maybe. Aaaaaaand it's easy to test the ABS hey :naughty

I should ask you Sean, are you talking about the ABS sensor thru the wheel hub or am I missing something here ?

Hey Jon, brake pads used to have asbestos and sure as shit there is a good chance that sound deadning stuff may do as well, we're talking 20 years ago before this shit........ blah blah blah............ Scary stuff.
