Maybe make a double tapered spacer to pack the outside of the thinner St165 ball joint out to the larger St185 ball joint? Cant do it at my work as our gear is frankly not good enough. It would be thin and I dont know how safe or legal it is but it does not seem unreasonable as the tapers should lock together? After all it is supported in all directions.

I don't think a spacer will cut it, all I can think of is to weld up the hole and have it re-drilled but that would require some fancy machining

The shocks line up OK, here is a test fit using a spare hub - ET39, 205/50/16
    [IMG]

Bruce had issues with his wheels rubbing against the TEIN adjusters, so I needed to check this before fitting - he has ET40, 205/60/15
scary how a half an inch and a centimetre inward can make such a huge difference. (edit - millimetre, not centimetre)
I'm not sure how he was able to move the struts but the fun will come when he tries to set the camber, caster & alignment

TEIN's are shorter - but a lot stiffer so the height should work out about the same
    [IMG]

The ST16x bolts vs the ST18x bolts
    [IMG]

It seems like everything on the ST18x got beefed up

Et is in mm, so not much in the offset but the diameter and different upright are what make most of the difference. The car was set up, aligned before I took it off the road for a 3 month build, ([IMG] A year and bit later still not done!), and it was sweet then but I am going to add some more camber and caster at some stage.

Are the TEINS replacing the original TEMS? If so, do they have that EDFC system and will that wire up to the TEMS hardware? I'd hate to see a rare TEMS GT-R lose its capbility.....

EDFC won't work with TEMS, I wish there was a way to combine them. I think EDFC is just a far more advanced version of TEMS with a user adjustable inferface.

I replaced the TEMS shocks a few years ago with KYB struts and Kings springs, the TEMS shocks are here and we have cut the perches off.
The plan is to run the TEIN setup till I can get the TEMS re-built and converted into coilovers. The TEMS shocks are real interesting and they are not cartrige type shocks either.
The outer strut is the cartrige and the struts were filled with shock oil (like on bikes), the rear struts also have caps on them and it looks like they can be re-furbed without too much hassle.
It will be tricky to do any welding on the TEMS struts as it could damage the bores inside

Actually I bought the TEIN's to use for spares (perches, springs, adjusters etc) for the TEMS but decided to fit them anyway in the meantime

Here are some ST185 test fit pics, you can see the large cooling duct
    [IMG]

and rear vent in these pics
    [IMG]

I decided to fit them anyway using the ST16x hubs and hunt down some ST18x arms to go with the 185 hubs.

The top mount is wrong (I think), I'd prefer it facing inward as this way the camber & caster is increased at the same time.
At the min setting there is too much camber so I'm going to have to do something there, maybe buy some camber bolts to use with the hubs, but I'll leave it till I have the right arms and access to a proper alignment machine.

The TEIN shocks are hard-as!, I was worried they would be too stiff but the ride is firmer and not nearly as harsh as I thought it would be.

At the top spring setting the height is similar to the Kings low springs, at the bottom setting the tyre is more or less in line with the fender.
I've set them a little lower than the Kings for now.

et40 wheels?!?!! good lord. stock is 38.

i believe the generation difference in the E boxes is in the pump and syncros. not much else. if you exclude the myraid of gearing.

    i see a 205 swapped car (oompa)

kev - why are you trying to use 185 ball joints? is it to get camber? use much later model camry, i believe they are the same shaft diameter. also you could always increase the size of the hole in the spindle.

Will the TEMS still work after the rebuild/coilover conversion?

The 15in OZ rally rims are ET40, my gen7 rims are ET39
That and the rim size make a huge difference, Bruce had to modify his to fit the struts. Here's one of him showing some Ferrari owners what a REAL car looks like
btw. the bonnet and grille/corners are for sale
    [IMG]

Yes, looks that way but then there's the later narrow boxes which are different shafts and gears and lighter weight.
Did the Solara box come with cooler pipes?

Hell yeah, count how many mods you can see. I'll leave the rest to his thread as you won't believe all the stuff that's been done on the car. The 3in stainless exhaust is an eg - I thought "cool", till I saw the price on the V-band clamps is $50ea.
Note where the 2 coolers got relocated

I'll have to have a look at Camry, Windom as well but I think the footprint is also bigger?
It's a major f/up, if I had known the problem is the Znoelli disks being 10mm too small I would not have fitted new bearings to the 185 hubs, I had a buyer for those hubs too.
The ST16x hubs are a lot lighter and I think the shrouds would swap over without hassles but getting the screws out is near impossible, the ST16x ball joints won't fit the ST18x hubs and the ST18x balljoints won't fit the ST16x arms.
I drilled the struts to take the St18x hubs so I'm commited now to the ST18x hubs - oops

Yes, it only controls the valving inside the dampers, just the same as the EDFC works. Neither can change ride height or spring rate
    [IMG]

This is a real ghetto way to check your cambers, crude but you'll be amazed how far out your settings can be, mine where way out!
2 planks screwed together with 2 screws can't move or lie, make it up according to the side you think is correct (check the wear pattern on the sidewalls)
As long as the ground is flat and the wheels are straight it will show any problems in comparing the camber angles, plan is to now get an adjustable one made in steel
    [IMG]

In the backround is an old Roland PC60 I'm getting running to make vinyl stickers again, so if anyone needs stickers.....
It's nearly 20yrs old and I had to build a pc and load Win2000 on it to get it functioning properly, old but good.
Custom designs, full car sets no problem

Put me down for a full set of ADM spoiler and door vinyls when you're ready to go.

Vinyls in black please. Do you have the graphics for the ADM "2.0 SX Twin Cam 16" rear spoiler and "2.0 Twin Cam 16" doors or should I go hunting for some photos to reference?

Anybody got the original stickers they can measure for me?
I made some today but the sizing looks screwy, so I need to re-size everything to the correct sizes.
My cars never had any stickers on them so I had to guess i the beginning

Here's the pics I took of mine. It appears Toyota asked a different person to design the font and size of each word, and then instructed them to not speak to one another while they did it, lol..

    2.0 SX - 155mm long, 20mm high

    Twin Cam - 93mm long, 12mm high

    16 - 31mm long, 15mm high

    Celica - 695mm long, 41mm high

    Toyota - 144mm long, 20mm high

I don't have the "2.0 Twin Cam 16" door stickers, can try to find a pic on the interwebs and scale it though?

wow...those stickers look different to my stock stickers !

If I remember, I will make detailed pic's of them tomorrow with measurements.

Thanks, mine are all a little bigger than that. ie The rear I had at 720mm x 55mm.
The small words I do as solid letters, the originals are tiny lines on a printed clear sticker (silkscreen) which doesn't work well in vinyl.
The morris in the backround is another of my creations

The window stickers I always do in white as that shows up best on glass
    [IMG]
Yeah, I know - wrong font, but it was corrected

Let me know what you think, I'm aware of the fonts and styles and will try to get them as close to the originals as possible.
There is no colour limitation, I tried red on white above and on my car the stickers are matte black which show only at certain angles which is a more "modern" style

lol, yeah ours were pretty busy. In full, from left to right, the ADM spoiler reads "2.0 SX Twin Cam 16 Celica Toyota", the stickers take up pretty much the full width of the wing.

That's cool, only real trainspotters would be able to pick the difference. If it makes things easier, you can also do the Twin Cam 16 bit all the same size instead of the "16" being slightly bigger.

Thanks, I've sized everything to your specs
It's a question of cost, longevity and looks, I'm trying to keep the look at a reasonable price while using only the best materials.
I don't believe in skimping on material like most signwriters do

The reason I don't duplicate the originals is printed stickers will only last 2-3yrs in the sun before fading and they would need to be cut as well as finding a printer to print silver.
Silkscreening them just wouldn't be affordable

I've kinda got lost in this mass of information :) can you please summarize what mods was needed to fit the ST202 coilovers?
