It's in french, but there are 7 pages and dozens of pics about my '87 celica restauration.

This is funny! - It's like we have two different cars, the more I look/ask, the more differences
    I find.

So what happens if I remove the O2 sensor? I've run with them unplugged and there doesn't seem
to be any difference. Oxi - is there a O2 sensor plug on your harness (near the alternator) ?

How does your car control emission without it?

I'd still like to see pics of the oil pipes etc, what's under your oil filter?

I was going to modify the Gen2 oil cooler water pipes to use the gen1 starter, that system you have
makes no sense - pumping cold oil straight back to the hot sump oil while the bearings are cooking?

well the bearing wont be cooking if there always getting a cool supply?? ill get you some full pictures tmrw!! ya i have no oxi sensor or egr valve or catalytic convertor??? i dunno what there needed for!! ;) haha!! but i think it could have something to do with n extra couple of horsies under the bonnet!! i know in auto data it says my engine has 156?? :D so i dunno, i always thought auto data was wrong? i think i have piping system for a oil cooler lying around!! and i know were theres a breaker yard with one!!! ill find out if your intrested! :D

The cooled oil is going to the sump - not the bearings!
Maybe it works in reverse and there is another pump in the sump?

I just want to see where it goes for now, an aftermarket take-off will be more effective if my suspicions are right

nope!! no second pump in that engine!! well the cooled oil goes into the sump and from there its picked up my the pump?

Yes, hot oil comes from the oil filter, pass through the oil cooler and go back to oil pan.

exactly whati was trying to say but much better said!

I'm amazed these engines are so reliable

There are a few design "quirks" which can be improved on ie:
    Solid main bearings
Crank oil passages & journal holes
    Oil cooler routing
    Engine block water passages
    Cylinders 1&2 + 3&4 too close together
Cyl 3 is not always bored straight (Ford Essex V6 had a similar problem with #5)

As I said the JDM's have no oil cooler or P/S cooler and we don't have problems unless
the engine is thrashed, not warmed up etc. Our ave summer temp is 30degC and winter 15degC.
Which is a lot hotter than Europe, Canada etc

One of my ideas is to weld extra fins onto the sump below the pulley and in front of the sump
to take advantage of the airflow under the front spoiler. I'd like to fit an aftermarket oil cooler
and an electric P/S pump (MR2 pump is kaka I'm told?) as well as a 3rd fan with a driver switch.
These are tricks I learned from racing and they all help

why would you want to fit a third fan??? :? and how would you go by the cooling channels?? i like the idea of the fins!!! but id be afraid that if you welded them on and caught one and it bent it would tear the sum... were as the sump has a small bit of flex in it now so it can dent... :?:

Third fan is driver controlled - for emergencies
Gen2/3 block has water fed in from the back as well, Toyota must've realized the problem
Sump fins are on the sides only, if you hit your sump I suggest buying a motorcross bike -
cars don't like jumping over stuff!

Oxi, I want to see pics of the car finished, let me know if you have any questions re the graphix
    or need any fittings/fixings

Does it have a plug for the O2 sensor?

I think to be able to apply the graphix next week-end. I'll take some pics.

For the O² plug, I suppose you do not ask for the exhaust header (no hole).

Where is supposed to go the wire?

ah yes stig but i dont think you understand... i live in ireland! :D these are what i can come across!!!

but it would be a good idea for the sump to keep it cool... were is the second water hose coming from on the gen2/3 block? :)

There should be a spare plug near the aircon pump wires, it only has 1 wire.

For stig : here's the diagram of the european 3S-GE oil cooler.
