its on its way so it should be here soon! now... another question... when you skim a cyclinder head to take a steel gasket does it have to be skimmed extra smooth or am i just thinking jibberish?? :D

    Re: seank90, 1990, 2ltr gt st162

ok so yesterday was the first time in almost 3 months that i touched the celica and i made a start with checking the cyclinder head and stripping it getting it ready to be skimmed! :)
so i started off by taking apart the cyclinder intake manifold
    [IMG]
i spit the TVIS from the manifold and i think i might need a few parts for it... the diafram seems to be leaking and if you hold your finger over the pipe the valves seem to open..
left down the camshaft ends and arranged the holders in the order they came out.. even thou there labelled already i like to keep everything in order just for safe keeping!
now... this part is important... you must keep this top cups(tappets etc.) in order ... the caps on the top of each can be different thicknesses so its best to label which valve is which... or else you can end up with a tappity engine head....(that is if they were changed before, the car is 20yrs old!)

i did this in the living room for two reasons... it was warm... and it helped me make sure i cleaned everything because i would be murdered if i let oil get on the floor! :D
    [IMG]

now you should have your cyclinder head bare and ready to be skimmed... you can check the valves to se that they dont need to be seated in again by using milk... pour the milk into the valve port and if you see white milk dripping out you need to bed them valves in! simple way, maybe not the best way, but it works!

now, i arranged all the parts in a way i know what goes were ( yes, they are in my bedroom ) and every bolt that was removed was taped up in masking tape and labeled were it goes because its going to be there for a week or two and its best not to be guessing what goes were when it comes to putting it back together

    Re: seank90, 1990, 2ltr gt st162

well things got a bit rough at home so im staying with friends just until i sort a place in the new year... ya, i had great crack reading the paper from 4 months ago!! :D i was never organised before like that but i used to always get someone else just to tighten my headbolts for me because i never liked doing it, but it kept blowing gaskets everytime!! so i think im just going to do it myself now... but i want to do everything right... when i was working in the garage i screwed up one by breaking the bolt were i had the torque rachet set wrong so they never let me at it again... but im going to do it right this time and do it all by the book!!! :D

    Re: seank90, 1990, 2ltr gt st162

yer the runners on yours are smooth and look bulkier. they also look shorter but thats probs an optical illusion due to them also looking fatter. yours is a jdm spec though with no egr. i still wouldnt have thought theyd have different castings for the runners. Yours also looks as if plenum is more centred in comparison to the runners.
heres the only pic i have with my manifold off the car
