Welp, turns out its totally ruined. The head is warped along with the intake manifold, which explains all the smoke. Looks like its time to find a new car :sad5. the only problem is finding one i actually like :banghead
Yep........ Machine the head face, and while your at it have the head valve seats and the valves themselves done......... put in new valve stem seals and a decent head gasket.......... Maybe even have the inlet and exhaust faces shaved to clean them up......... dunno really ? Hey MAFIX (or anybody else)........ step in here please........ how warped is too warped ?, can a head be so warped that it's f/d beyond machining and is the intake manifold a little more 'forgiving' or 'flexible' enough to sit 'flush' on the *new* head with a decent gasket and torqued properly ? Of course warm the engine and re-tighten the manifold bolts a couple of times after if needed ? Anyway........ Clean up the block face, water channels and pistons etc..... etc..... while your at it. Oh...... and get new spark plugs, rotor button, dizzy cap and if need be, new plug leads. When I bought this car and got it home and checked inside the dizzy cap, the metal 'contact' points were 'eaten' away back into the plastic, the rotor button and plug leads were just as old and the timing was out 10 degrees, even though the car has had 'more than regular' scheduled servicing. Please explain Toyota :aargh Some of these parts rarely need replacing (depending on K's), it's just something I like to do on any car I buy because then I know for sure where I'm at regardless of history.
Just get a new motor.. All it takes is a good eye . Too bad theres a guy where im at with 3rd gen 3sge w/ 98,000 kms w trans for $450
ya it is heres the link on kijiji, it says it comes with a ecu and wiring harness http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z321291834
I've put too much money into it already, and it would probably need more in a years time. Its sad. but it just makes more sense to get rid of it. If I cant sell it i'll be sure to put it on here as parts. I would put a new engine in it if the rest of it was in great shape, but it all needs so much work that its not quite worth it. And i think i'll have to stick around the site, you guys are just far too entertaining.
Yeh... fair call, it's hard sometimes to decide when 'enough is enough'....... it might be parts time after all, sadly. I also have many a good laugh on here
I think I saw your gts on the fresno craigslist. I'm sorry man. I would consider picking it up too if I thought it would make the trip back to san francisco.
yeah, its really no good. nobody wants anything to do with it, not that i can really blame them. i really wish i could just keep it. I've been trying to think of ways to fix it. Today I was poking around and found out that the AFM had been pried apart and was in pieces. The vacuum leak seems to be around the injectors, not where the head meets the manifold.
WTF.... Who would want to muck around with the AFM.......... Get another one. In saying that, can an AFM be cleaned out/serviced and can I do it at home........ WITH CARE........ these things are 20 years old and probably full of 'whatever'...... I used to disassemble and clean out my LPG gas convertor on another car and it always ran better after. Check what kev said because vacuum leaks are generally easy to fix....... especially rubber hoses. I personally would give all rubber hoses a squeeze to check for old split/cracked ones. Search here for 'vacuum leaks'. :cheers2 Suck eggs, I'v got 2 :mrgreen
