That factory cooler is a waste and I'm sure the reason why gen2's run bearings. Every time you pull the filter it's empty and it takes ages to build pressure - do as Rev says/ or run without and use your old water pipes I don't think you can fit the bigger bolts without drilling the flywheel Camry/MR2 starter mod will only work with Gen2 flywheel - check Dave's thread as he made this mistake

So the flange on the early bolts is the same size as the thread on the later bolts? Show us it fitted, this is confusing as there are slotted flywheels to allow this and I have a lightweight 5S flywheel which would work great with my gen2 motor

I guy's I am still wanting the torque spec's for the flywheel bolts please and the same time is there a way I can service my steering rack myself while motor is out make's life for me to do it now.
gen1 3sge is 65ft-lbs for a new bolt, 69ft-lbs for a reused bolt. make sure you do it in this cross pattern ........1........ ...8.........5... 4.............. 3 ...6.........7 ........2.........

I don't have my books handy, Torque on the later bolts is 107Nm with locktite Will email you a gen3 BGB I have on pdf, motors are pretty similar apart from sump, shims, tensioner etc Steering rack should be the same as Camry, see if you can get parts for it, normally it's the outer joints that wear and fail, boots etc
Kevin thanks very much I have received the file on the st 202 that's going to help me alot.But I am at the same time starting to loose my marble's with this motor it's just to much to mod I have now come across water pipes and petrol pipes that oil filter was easy and the hole on the block just blocked off with a bolt starting think of selling this one rather mod a st205 turbo motor that a friend of mine want's to sell does the ecu from my car work with that motor or will that have to be changed as well.Thanks for the tip on power steering.
The pertol lines/regulator etc are the same, the injector rail is different though (it has no cold start). The water pipes - you need to fit the ones from your motor, mr2 has a different setup. Use the gen2 ECU and harness, you will need a gen2 airbox cover and air inlet pipe or just a pipe and a pod filter ST205 will be harder to fit and it also needs it's own ECU, spares are like rocking horse shit A guy here (bluestreak) has fitted the gen2 motor using the gen1 AFM, TB, ECU, harness etc. The biggest problem was getting the the pipes to the TB and the throttle linkage working properly. Evidently it goes well but his pics were lost in the crash 1yr ago, ask him to re-post his thread. I got my ST185 head yesterday, so will be ditching the gen2 GE head, manifolds etc I have. The gen2 GE is easy to find parts for, the Gen1/3/185/205/215 are NOT easy to find parts for. I also have a spare MR2 gen2 harness here, plus sensors, switches etc and could find you an airbox cover but the hose I suggest a new one as they are all cracking Seank90 and Jwagner have posted stripdowns of steering racks before, I have used Corona, Camry, Curren racks before without problems but this week I bought a 205 rack which is totally different and no use to us "the hole on the block just blocked off with a bolt " - ? Which hole To remove the oil cooler you must fit the bolt/mount from your gen1 and a normal filter screws onto it I have been using the gen2 block/gen1 GTE head for a few years now With without, in this pic the pipes are closed to make room for the starter and the cooler is still fitted till I could swap the filter mount, i drove it like this for a while For the rear pipe all you need do is short out the two front cooler pipes
The pipe I was talking about is the one that run's into the block on the other side of it.Now for the flywheel issue again I was wrong and you guy's where right flywheel did line up perfect untill I tried fitting the bolt's all went well for about 5 bolt's then came to realize that the rest did not want to fit it was off centre so what did had the hole's redrilled to 15mm the hole before was 13mm now it fit's properly but I am worried that it move's around when under pressure remember bolt is 12mm if it is well tighten with the correct torque and locktite will it hold strong won't it move and snap or maybe break my crank.The progress is going slow but getting there for my pressure plate was damaged and having that also recon.
Ho shit did not know that I understood drill but what I will do is drill another hole for a guide for safety but drilling the crank it's going to be a shit one.Took my pressure plate and clutch in for repair's got the whole lot done for R250.00 I think it was very cheap.
update I managed to get the flywheel on and gearbox after small mods fitted a dowel and had to drill the gearbox to fit it to the block also because of a dowel which was off center now all done I have noticed that I broke the two pipe that goes on the power steering pump that switch thing was thinking removing it because there is no place to fit them pipes anyway will it make difference that is out just block it off or what to do?
You have to block it or your idle will be too high, it raises idle when your car is idling and turning, ie parking. I don't have it fitted anymore and it doesn't bother me except when the motor is idling rough. Steal one from a Camry or block both pipes
Ok thanks Kevin will block it off as well but anyway this motor don't have those pipes to fit too they say the MR2 uses an elec pump not on the motor those water pipe's we spoke about before for the starter to fit I did that but what is puzzling me is the hole behind on the block that I blocked off as well that's not going to cause any problems?I see on that picture with the orange pipes you have looped the pipes in front and still used the same setup on the rear.
ST182 does have those pipes fitted though, my 182 manifold has a metal bracket bolted on so I could get you one Rear water pipe is an extra, shouldn't make any difference - I think it's main job is quicker warmup
What I did this weekend was fitted all the stuff from my old engine to the new one changed all brackets starter,alternator power pump what is now a bit of a worry was wiring alternator wiring is to short what must I do cut and extend-it? and the alternator are they all the same on the wiring, header's are different to mine do I change that as well or mod the flange to fit my pipe.Removed steering rack now will see if Camry one is the same or maybe have it repaired.Another thing will be the wiring that I have on my car do I remove it complete or what?? It look's very confusing not good with wire's at all I will be fitting the motor this week-end coming help will very much appreciated I would like to get it right first time.
