this will lower your engine about 10 deg good for alltrac. importtuner.com tested this and it works so if your interested you can do it your self for about 10 dollar at most and 5 the least. just go to your local hardware store. :D

    Def not JDM?
Easier just to remove the sealing rubber strip behind the strut bar-
air will flow out the same, problem is your dash air vents will always blow
    hot air with this "mod"

yeah i read that issue, nothing special. it was for guys who were overheating their cars in stop and go traffic. nothing better fans or a lower temp thermostat wouldnt fix.

the mod can also screw your bonnet catch and cable up, I did this on my car for a bit, the bonnet moves with the air flow at high speed flapping, straining the catch. only way i would do this mod is with bonnet pins.

I'm guessing they were monitoring engine bay air temp, not engine temp
as you would have to change/remove themostats to lower engine temp

Only of benefit to those with pod filters or stock intercoolers and would
probably drop engine bay air pressure to almost nothing

did they measuer this temp while actually running?
iv been told that is a high pressure area and will infact do nothing for venting the air while at a fairly high speed?

"monitor intake air and under-hood temperatures before and after performing the modification "

This is just a cheap diy for those who are on a budget. :D I am not trying to say this is very effective but for import tuner to have a 13 deg drop average testing this mod I think is pretty good.

Yes they did, you can find the article at http://www.importtuner.com/tech/impp_09 ... index.html :D

I think this has more to do with car dynamics than anything else. As far as what I know, the 4G was built along the same lines as the 3KGT. Everything was designed to flow in a wind tunnel.

This would mean that the air is going to flow through/around the car very well. I doubt you'll see a 10 deg decrease with this mod on this particular car. Maybe on a different platform.

Its probably easier to cut vents into the hood than do this. Maybe cheaper aswell. I dont think a drill bit and a skill saw blade is that expensive. Also wouldn't cause the same hazards as Alwayzsidewayz pointed out. Or screw up the nice body lines on the car.

good points. as stig said earlier just remove the rubber hood liner on the top of the firewall. which i think i actually have mine still.

yeah the only reason I raised the bonnet was to get extra hot air out, but it only works when the car is stationary.

The bonnet movement is really not great, if you did this mod with a fibreglass vent, it for sure would cause major cracking.

removing the back strip is good, raising the bonnet does nothing more than stress your catch and ruin the lines.

LoL Sidewayz, reminds me of a race car I drove with a thin fiberglass hood.
At over 250ks the hood would bow up so high you had to look under the bonnet
    to find the next corner

True but from all my research I found that the greatest weakness in the st165 was venting in the engine bay. It would get too hot. You can cut the hood but that just look sloopy and another ricer crap. I still want my car to look clean and if I am getting a hood vent on. it gotta be nice. :D
This is just temp for me till I get my hood vent but like I said for those who aint rich and want to do a mod to drop deg. My hood seem to be on tight and I've tested it on the highway and I have no problem with it so far. Will update more later if I run into any issue but for now as a dd it works :D

cheers for calling my cut out vents sloppy lol.
what ever works for you, def agree that heat management in the car is a big issue, but remember the heat sources are all towards the front of the bay.

lol I wasn't targeting toward your alltrac. I just don't want a sloppy cut like all the civics I seen around here. :p

it's funny because the front vents that we have pul heat UP through them. (which is why my scoop is completely useless)

Have you done anything to try to reduce the under hood temps without causing potential problems to you or the other drivers around you yet? Exhaut and Turbo wrap are not that expensive, just really f'ing time consuming to put on. But it does work. And you'll probably see better under hood temps across the board with that rather than just at idle sitting at a light.

It may be rice to 'cut your hood' but at the same time it all serves a greater purpose when done correctly vs done for looks. Its all about getting heat out. The Alltrac in general is gonna be a heat monster. Christ, they stuck a TMIC in the car. Granted its water to air which shouldn't affect under hood temps alot, but with a turbo that size stuck in there it causes extra problems anyway.

IMO car looks like shit with the rear of the hood all jacked up. Looks like you forgot a tool back there and bent the hood up on accident. Screws up the clean lines of the car.
