:crazy and you still don't know how to use an ohm meter :mrgreen

Yeah 2 14mm bolts to loosen 1 in each of these slots then you can rotate the distributor until the engine sounds like its running it best

Hopefully that will clear up and is just a result of all the times you tried to start it before you got the timing right
I take it it didn't smoke before the timing belt broke?
    White smoke or black smoke?

their may be a vacuum leak or 2 that we will have to sort out or the timing belt may still be of
by 1 tooth, its pretty hard to line up the timing gear so you may need to move it 1 tooth forwards
    or backwards

guess i didnt need it

the smoke has pretty much cleared up.

okay so i rotated the distributor all the way forward....think i may need to adjust the belt....anyway i have ran into a few problems :banghead there is something that comes out of the left side (looking at the engine) of the throttle body that got bent when i raised the engine :eek:ops i straightened out one of the vacume lines and replaced that but the part where it threads into the throttle body is bent. it still has no power and the intake is really loud from the filter....sounds like there is no filter on but there are no leaks that i can see. and now what i think is the biggest problem...my timing belt has rubbed right through my cover....it is sliding off of the pully and rubbing on the cover, how do i fix this? i thought we were going to be done! =[

oh also my powersteering is SCREAMING at me when i even so much as touch the steering wheel....belt to loose? fluid level is fine

I JUST WANT TO BE DOING THIS!!!! :auto or :driving

It is probably your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) I don't have a 3sfe celica motor so this may be slightly
different its from a 5sfe camry engine but your should look similar
    [IMG]

it actually attaches to the intake manifold right behind the throttle body
    [IMG]

So if your EGR isn't hooked up properly then you do have some major leaks and that is the sound your
    hearing from the intake.

Like I said I don't have a 3sfe celica motor so I don't really know it that well but their all pretty
much the same and on a 3sge motor I can't think of anything that would adjust the tracking of
the timing belt. The only thing that I can think of that guides the timing belt is a big washer that
    goes down on the crankshaft
    [IMG]

first you put the gear on the crankshaft
    [IMG]

and the washer sits on top with the curve facing outwards like the green line. The red line
    shows an incorectly installed washer

the only other thing I could think of checking is to make sure your #1 idler pully
    bolt is tight step (d)

Belt loose or maybe grease or oil on the belt

You should get a photobucket account so you can post some pictures

this is the part that was bent when lifting the engine.

this is the egr that you were talking about i believe.

this is the side of the filter where the loud sound is coming from (sounds kinda like i have a cold air intake...just louder.) this is where the pipe enters the front quarter panel of the car
    [IMG]

and this is where the timing belt has rubbed through the cover....i put the "washer" on at the crank shaft with the lip facing out....going to take it all apart again tomorrow and inspect everything
    [IMG]

i inspected all the vacuum lines and everything looked fine. i'm guessing that my timing is still off is all....took it for a quick test drive today and could barely climb a hill. rpm's wont go above 4500. i verified that it is firing on all 4 cylinders. hopefully re-doing timing will work.

I do believe thats for your air conditioning, perhaps put a bit of silicone around the threads
and connection to the intake manifold, it doesn't really matter its bent just as long as its
secure and it seals with the intake manifold

well considering i have no AC and no idea where the AC pump would even go i really guess its not important :lol2

anyway i took it all apart today and installed a new timing belt. my timing was still off by a few degrees and the belt was pretty chewed up from rubbing through the cover almost all the way around. (seriously almost had a perfect cutout of the belt route lol) found out that it was coming off because i didnt have the tensioner pully tightened all the way. anyway it is now running better than when i bought it! AND JUST BEFORE CONVERTIBLE SEASON ENDS!!!!!

Now arn't you glad you found this forum, you only got 1 response on the other
