So seeing as your getting no codes I'm guessing you will have some sort of voltage at 2500 rmp with the jumper removed. On mine it was 2.2v.

lucky canadian tire sells the replacement o2 sensor for 90 dollars, better than 150. Ill get my gf to help me do the test again after we get back from grocery shopping.

thanks 165! whens your bday? you deserve something special!

assuming the voltage reads 0, and I have to diag. the engine codes, how would I do that? Im just thinking it might not be the o2 cuz its pretty new im told, might not really be tho.

ps do you know of any MAF tests? I tryed celica tech but couldnt find anything.

Most of the tests you should find in the fuel injection section so if by MAF you mean air flow meter it is there.

yea FI-84, is there a way to get that page? wait a sec, you got 2.2V and anything above 0 mean to replace the o2? that dosn't make sence.

edit: ok maybe it does, I guess by reading a voltage it tells you the sensor is working, and by only scoring 8 or less its a sign its not working right.

Yes failure is a count of less than 8 and a voltage greater than 0

Well theres a big shocker for you  EH :wall:

You need to spend more time browsing :reading: our own

    TECHNICAL FORUM :club:

where you will find pretty much all electrical aspects of the BGB have been covered.

I went to canadian tire to get a new o2 and they were all single wire ones for the celica (wtf! we have 4 wire ones) and all the universal 4 wire ones dont come with a flange to fit on right  Does anyone know a car that uses an interchangeable sensor?

    86-87 1 wire, 88-89 4 wire!

wow. autopartsway.ca is a gooood place to shop. I got my O2 sensor and fuel filter the next day, with free shipping. Installed the o2 sensor today and it was obvious my old one had a big leak in the gasket, a possible cause of missreadings? I finaly tired up a bit of my exhaust that was hanging down so I have a "clang" free ride now. Pensoil full synthetic was onsale at walmart for 18 bucks so I went ahead and changed the oil, I know my car leaks oil, so Im sure ill need to top up the synthetic at some point. It actually felt different to drive, might have just been me going crazy tho

if the oil is leaking out of the crank case bolt then find a rubber ring, put it on the bolt and it should hold the leak. i did something similar and it has worked perfect with mine, it stopped a pretty steady leak and has lasted well.

I have a small program (little over 2 megs downloaded and unzipped) I purchased online that is a complete trouble-shooting/educational guide to emission controls. It explains all the components, various readings, and helps guide you to finding/correcting the problem w/ tons of charts and graphs. It's been a great help to me, and for $20 pays for itself the first time you don't buy an expensive part you don't need. I found it at www.carleysoftware.com. Also, you can email specific questions to the guy who runs the site and he gets back to you right away. I sent him about 3-4 smog checks worth of readings and he helped trouble-shoot my problem(s) based on the various readings and how they moved up and down. The relationships between HC, NOx, CO2, O2, and CO can be complicated as hell. I highly recommend at least checking out the site and the example charts. Probably saved me several hundred bucks (at least) worth of parts and SMOG shop repairs.

thanks Ill keep this in mind. The cars going in once more tonigh twith the new MAF and O2 sensor installed. If the worst happens I think im gonna install a second cat right after the current one, and once i pass the test replace it with a pipe.

Wish I could copy and print the CAT article from the emission guide (it's somehow locked into the program). Based on what I'm reading, I'm not sure a 2nd cat is going to help. The functionality of the CAT is based on A/F mixture, and amount of other gases present. When the ratios get out of whack, the CAT can't burn them and/or convert them to H2O and CO2. Additionally, the heat from the engine is a crucial factor and the CAT uses a lot of that heat to function. I think the ability of a 2nd CAT to further reduce emissions may be completely negated by the first CAT.

Disclaimer: I'm not an emission expert - not even close - so could be completely talking out my ass here; however, based on what I'm reading, I don't think I'm too far off. Just my ignorant .02

    SOOOOOO CLOSE! ok

    HC: 47 passed!
    CO: .01 Passed!
    No: 2502! FAILED DAMN IT

I think it might have been the o2 sensor messing with the ECU because the car was running lean. I didnt reset ECU after installing (DOH). I also suspect the sea foam may have clogged the EGR or something. Well its on the way to passing :'(

etests are such a pain man I totally understand...

I'm not going to get a real one when I try in springtime that's for sure....no way I'll pass lol

I posted about how I passed. I initially failed 2 times, then I retarded the timing all the way and pulled a vac line to run a bit leaner. sounded and ran like shit but put out sunshine and rainbows out the exhaust, allowing me to pass, then I just set everything back the way it was, and was back to polluting the air agian.

I failed by 2-3 times the allowable amount too...
