Young girls are jealous of everything you spend more time with - be it your car, mates
or your playstation, makes no difference. One day she'll be begging you to find a hobby and
hopefully by then she'll have found one too.

Trees are bad news - they clog up your heater system with leaves too

I have this recurring nightmare - somebody steals my car!, dunno what that means?

Yes, I enjoy looking at it, working on it, collecting them etc - but have no desire to alter the original look,
which brings up an interesting question -

    WHY, WHY change the car?
Everybody knows the more "stuff" you bolt onto your car - the more it de-values,
insurance goes up and it looks less like the original.

People enjoy seeing the original in it's original form and remembering those days gone by.
So what's with the obsession to fit scoops, spoilers, vents, bodykits?

I understand wanting to build a modded car for weekend racing, that's different

    Please somebody explain.....

    Re: CELICALITUS - explained

the answer is simple. personal choice.

as for depreciating the value. lets be honest who cares. The 162's are worth sweet fuck all, even in mint condition and even 165's arent really very expensive. so who really cares, these days the only thing that would actually draw in a prospective buyer to pay a tad more is upgraded supspension and a rebuilt motor and even then they wont wanna pay much. most of these cars are completely fucked and rusted to hell anyway

as for vents, bodykits and what not its all personal choice for instance. I made my 185 style bonnet for many reasons. 1 its actually very functional, 2 IMO it looks great and 3 i was in the position to be able to make it myself and very cheaply so if i didnt like it it was no loss. Dont get me wrong the original shape of the 16x is gorgeous but nothing is ever perfect. why? becuase everyone has different taste no matter how slightly different the opinions may be. such as the normal front looks good but IMO when compared to the 165 front bar the 162 front looks shit. i personally think that the way the car is designed leaves it looking like a truck no matter how much you try and lower it so the use of side skirts, and rear bar make it look lower and more modern (provided the kit isnt god ugly).

Modifying a car in my eyes is an extention of ones self. Just the same as an artist reveals themselves through paintings i reveal myself through the way i modify my car. If everyone liked the same thing then we would all have the same car and that would just be boring (and confusing)

i can definately see the appeal of a mint condition standard spec car. a perfect example is celica steves gorgeous 162. but for me i want my car low, loud, fast, agressive and to handle like a go kart. if that means spending obsurd amounts of money and making the car look different to everyone elses then thats sure as shit what im gonna do :mrgreen

I have a similar dream where I've crashed the Celica :ugh I wake up so relieved it was a dream :)

That's a good Celicalitus debate between Stig and Rev-head.

When I first read Stig's post, I totally agreed with everything that was written, mainly because it's how I would write it.

After reading Rev-heads', I also have to agree, even though it's not what I would do. We have to look at both sides, and appreciate and support each others' "art form" and give constructive critisisum if needed.

Haha, the dreams and all that. We do so many things to our cars its hilarious.
But hey, my girlfriend also does get jealous and always says I spend a lot of time on my car. She even hates it when I call Alexis, baby. Lol, this car is my little baby.

I do think about trying not to wreck it and do keep a close eye on it.

You have to explain to your wives/girlfriends/boyfriends :roll that the Celica body is like an item of clothing. It wraps round your skin and makes you look SEXY ! :cool

    Re: CELICALITUS - explained

What damn perfect statement. How the hell do you know how I feel about my cars?! lol! Kudos to you man. No ricer stuff, but all original and smart design in all aspects. Perfect.

I'm going for a factory look but make it look aggressive as well and make you think that Toyota rolled it off the line this way as a special order like the IMSA alltrac. Going for a perfect blend of modern, to 80's to aggressiveness, if that makes sense. I do not want to stray too far from the Celica's original body lines.

    Anyway, back on topic.
I also sit in my car alot, just staring at it. I can be standing outside just staring it as well "hmm I think I'll give her a car wash" haha

Then my girlfriend calls me and asks me to pay attention to her! LOL. Alexis isn't a person, but a beautiful machine! But I do love her...uh the car. hahaha nahh love both.

Good idea regarding the conversion of the Porshe.

This is true........it's 2.33a.m. in the UK as I write. I've finished work about two hours ago, had some supper, watched a bit of TV and been on here. I have also just been inside my garage to give the Celica a once over with a detailer spray, then sat back to admire the mirrored finish. There is absolutely no orange peel finish on this Celica, just smooth coachwork.

    Re: CELICALITUS - explained

Rev - Don't get me wrong, I've built cars that were expressions of myself, sadly I became bored with all of them before long.
And that's the problem with modding car's - it will never be "perfect" and so loses it's appeal slowly.

If people are trying to make a statement - Then why do they copy others who are trying to make a statement also?
(Bit like being a "punk" when I was a teenager, we all wanted to be different but to outsiders we
all looked the same - and daft to boot)

Cheap junk! - to you YES. I agree and it's the same as the junk Triumph TR3 my old man bought for $50 in 72 -
my mate's old man bought a Healey A300 and 2 Frogeyes for similar money. (quote - "completely fucked and rusted to hell")
Years of slowly restoring busted parts, loving care and those 4 cars are today worth a silly amount of money.

We would cruize those cars once we left school (and had earned our folks trust)
and the reaction was the same wherever we went -
    [IMG]

The guys in zooted cars didn't have a chance - Why?
Women can smell money for miles!, and appreciate originality and rarity more than we do. (eg antiques - whats up with that?)

The only ones who "noticed" the zooted cars just happened to all be wearing Police uniforms.

    Re: CELICALITUS - explained

Me too. In fact, my current dream was that one of my wheel got stolen... :)

    My opinion on this:
Back then when I bought the car, the bodykit played a very big part in felling in love with the car. I knew the shape of the car before (my brother had two), and it just looks much better for me this way. And since it was an optional extra, it fits the car perfectly IMO, not like others, where owner grabbed a bumber/sideskirt from another car and made it fit somehow. That only looks unnatural to me.

When I bought it and I was younger (and stupider :) ), I wanted a different rear wing, neons, etc, but luckily I grew out of it shortly. I was thinking on what other rear wing could fit, and I ended up that the oem one is the most beautiful, and nothing else fits there. I had vinyls too (quite big ones), but as I got older I thought what the hell! this looks awful.

I think all of us has these intensions more or less when we are younger, but with age we grow out of it and our taste for beauty changes.
I don't have anything against modding a car as long as it's made with good quality and things that fit (I know, this is subjective) and not to look ricey.

    (I hope I didn't offend/harm anyone with this post)

I love the body lines a lot but sometimes I just want it a little more me.....I enjoy having a little attention. If I get tired of one look then ill change it. But that's why flatliner is mine and I can do what my budget allows.

I think you didn't get me right (or my english is not good enough :) ).

    That's exactly my point too!

The whole car-modding thing is very subjective, but I think we can agree that if 9 out of 10 people say that something is ugly, then it's ugly. And I don't mean any of your cars guys!!! Especially yours, it looks great, but I've stated that before. The same way, if 9 out of 10 people say that something looks good, it looks good.

Previously, I ment cars like this:

    Re: CELICALITUS - explained

Interesting post from Stig. So that means, our Celicas, if they stayed in original form, may be worth quite a fair bit one day ? Obviously there is no guarantee, but as Stig said, women will appreciate originality more, like antiques.

None of us bought our Celicas as investments, but it would be a nice thought to know one day, if they were to be worth lots, just like the Toyota Corolla AE86s are now.
