i was guessing that it was for a previous security alarm. i recently installed keyless entry/immobilizer in mine and left that out. kind of pointless when you have the alarm from the door...where the latch release is...

  2. I just want the power windows to work again, and I don't need keyless entry but I have no lock on the passenger door so I need to get 2 new locks with a key. Also don't need an alarm. I doubt anyone in this area wants to steal a beater '88 Celica or stripped-out Miata -_-

hey does your courtesy light on the door panels work? the one that lights up red when you open your door/trunk? if that works, then your harness is conencted...which leaves you with fuses or the actual controls themselves.

I have keyless entry fitted with my alarm, I don't know if the locks still work as I haven't used them in 3yrs.
Check ALL your fuses with a meter to make sure it's not something simple.
Sometimes just the dome fuse taking too much strain with a/m radios, amps etc

Never seen that type of bonnet lock before either - thats old school

  5. Yeah that lock was weird...

Been drifting the ST185 a lot lately in Gran Turismo 5. Here's some pics. Man I want an All-Trac...

  7. So my car's been dead for several days now...I tried starting it, the lights and radio worked, starter clicked a single click every time I turned the key to On, but there was no crank. Then I tried again, this time the radio and lights died completely, starter still clicks. I took out the battery and went to the store, they tested it at 13 volts and 94% charged. Could it still be the battery, because they told me it can't be the battery...I think I should just buy one and try it, or try jumping the car this weekend. This sucks though...anyway what I'll probably end up doing in a month or two is buying this http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-87-93-T...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr because I can't stand the headaches and previous owner's fuckups anymore, nor can I afford a decent car right off the bat. A motor swap might just be the most economical choice for me. Plus it'll take care of the dead clutch, broken speedometer and high mileage.

lol, not that one - it's JDM too. Is this PS3 or XBOX?
Can you make the car black with gold wheels so I can see what mine will look like

    You have a power f/up
Either the battery connections or the earths to your gearbox and chassis is bad
Clean em, retighten them and try agaian

  9. Looks like I'll be checking all my grounds if I can find them, and the battery cable/starter connections tomorrow.

I understand it's the JDM ST162 3S-GE which has about 30 more HP, but would I need to swap my ECU for a JDM ECU? If so, guess I can't swap because finding an original JDM 3S-GE ECU (do I need JDM engine harness too???) might be impossible.

"The first-generation 3S-GE was produced from May 1984[SUP][6][/SUP] to 1989, arriving in both Northern American versions, as well as In Japan as a second variation. The Northern American engine was slightly less powerful, producing around 135 bhp (101 kW). This engine was the only 3S-GE to come to North America, in the Celica GT-S (ST162). Among other things, the Japanese market version sported a more aggressive ECU and lacked the EGR valve system, pushing the output to somewhere around 160 PS (118 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 19.0 kg·m (186 N·m) of torque. The engine was originally available only in the Toyota Camry/Vista Twin Cam 2000.[SUP][6]"[/SUP]

As it says - the JDM has no EGR and also the exhaust is different as well as the ECU.

If you have the non EGR motor with the longer headers it should have the ECU too.

According to my tuner the ECU's are re-programable, so that will be interesting once we start modifying with the car on the dyno
It also means that any ECU can be overwritten with a more aggresive profile as the JDM's are becoming scarce and expensive.

As always there is a downside to modding the ECU, I don't think a high hp ecu will be good for the street so I've installed a piggyback setup.
One for the road with stock settings and one banzai version for "fun" sessions with a Sard adjustable FPR

Right now Jwagner is the one to speak to - he's the only one who's running the JDM and US ECU's against each other and got dyno figures

  11. I'd have to swap over my EGR components to pass inspection. I'm just wondering if the USDM ECU is capable of cooperating with the JDM 3S-GE or will the engine go crazy when I try to start it with the stock USDM ECU? I'm assuming the engine harnesses are the same and I don't need new ones. I checked ebay and can't find a JDM ECU...looks like my only option would be an AEM programmable ECU but I don't want to shell out the $800 for that. I don't want this car to be a racecar, just a reliable fun daily driver. I already have a racecar.

Like I said Jon runs both ECU's and the JDM does make more power, hopefully soon I'll be able to mod any ECU to the same specs

You can't bolt EGR to a JDM motor - it doesn't have the ports in the head & exhaust for it

  13. Dammit, I already have a car that won't pass inspection, I can't have two now! Looks like this engine is out of the picture unless I move to Florida when my lease is up, where they don't have stupid inspections...It's going to take me another month just to afford the engine, and my buddy has a shop that can install it all for $450. I'd love to have 160hp and a sub-60,000 mile motor/trans...I have to make this happen. My Miata almost got me killed the other day driving in snow and rain with no wipers or defroster. Can't do that anymore.
