i made a video in hopes for you all to hear it. if you fast forward to 1:23 thats when you can hear it best in the vid. It seems to be coming from the alt.
LOL im the biggest idiot ever sorry guys, forgot to post the video! here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9W6At0h ... annel_page
I didn't really hear anything that bad, just maybe some slight whining. Hard to say, you may want to try some belt dressing and see if it goes away.
well in real life its much more noticeable, almost sounds like a supercharger kind of just not so high pitched *thinks about driving a supercharged st162*
it looks to me your hearing nothing but the spinning of your accessories, and the 4a-gze is a supercharged engine, it came in the aw11.
check your accessory belts and your power steering fluid. those are the only things i could think of. :?
i have the same whirring noise, sounds like its from the power steering pump which has been leaking. my noise goes up with engine revs and sounds a lot worse tho. changing the pump and maybe the rack when i get the money, then checking the belts and while doing the timing belt checking the water pump too. if you have any luck id like to hear it, the noise has gotten worse after a couple months.
I recently had an alternator go bad - it happens. Loose belts can screech, overtight belts will make a lot of noise too. Remove the alternator/A/C belt and start it, remove the P/S belt and start it You'll soon know what's causing the problem
i guess start it off the power in the battery without accessories running, and reconnect the alt belt before doing it too many times and draining the batt.. correct me if im wrong but thats what im goin to try this weekend
It could be a lot of different things, but it doesn't sounds like anything is "wrong". Sounds like a pulley to me. My guess is the alternator as well. I also don't think you would have to start the motor to determine if it is a pulley or not. I'd think that you could remove the belt and turn them by hand to find the noisy one. I wouldn't worry much. Just take your time, you'll find it.
You should be able to start the car 15-30X without the alternator turning. (or get a new battery) You can't turn stuff fast enough by hand You can test belts and pulleys by squirting some water on the belt and see if the noise changes Take the belts off 1 at a time If you still have a noise - there's a problem with the waterpump or cambelt idler/tensioner bearings It's a simple process of elimination? Battery maintenance While you're at it - you can revive your battery by 1st checking the water, leave it to discharge overnight with the lights on and then slow charge it up again over 24hrs. Do not fast charge! - it bends plates and cooks the battery. This will often "bring back" a sick battery and should be done every couple of months - more often if the car isn't used much viewtopic.php?f=38&p=50374#p50374
