   I thought I've seen others that are solid red on these cars besides the reverse lights. I wouldn't want those red. Is it really just spray can over the orange?

   same as the "smoke" effect. You can get it in red as well and the more layers, the more red and if you tape off the reverse and put a final clear coat on it you'll get the effect you are talking about.
