curb weight for a GT-S is about 2700 lbs. Sadly I cant find that post lsiting weights, but whats a reasonable estimate for loss >30-40 lbs for the spare tire >75 lbs for seats (is this per seat?) >Sterio and speakers (lbs?) (mine dont work so might as well) >Sound Matting 30 lbs if I remember >After market tires (lbs?) Any other anvils in my car?
air conditioning.....cruise control.... those are two things that aren't really vital, if you're looking for a few more pounds of weight loss, as well with the ac out the engine won't have to work as hard....
I dont think I had AC to begin with; Im away at school with my celica at home so I cant really check, 90% sure i dont have it to begin with. Did it come standard on the gt-s par chance?
Figure this, i have no interior, nothing behind the rear seats at all. No rear speakers, No A/c, No Cruise PLUS a bolt in 6pt cage Im at 2600 and change
All GT-S 's came with AC. If you want to eliminate it. Youll have to change how the alternator belt is routed. I took out the idler pulley and got a bracket of a 91 celi and made and adjustable bracket for the alternator.
^^ i don't know that for a fact, but to buffer Youds's post, A/C was barely an option, and hella pricey back then, to most of the cars that were out in that time frame. but back to topic: it really depends on what your plans are with the car. but if you were to lighten it to the MAAXXXX, then here's what i think it would be in no particular order: - gut interior/carpet - remove spare tire/jack assembly - remove trunk interior trim - remove rear seats - remove passenger seat (optional) - get aftermarket bucket seat - remove a/c/heater components - remove stereo components - remove - get smaller battery with optional relocation to the trunk - lighter aftermarket wheels/tires - remove sound deadening - remove cruise control - remove alarm if one's equipped, unless it's a daily commuter. - install CF hood - gut the doors - fab up a fiberglass or CF trunklid (would benefit the coupes more) - if hatchback, lexan material trunk window i bet there's much more. but the aforementioned is for the ultimate light machine! please add if i missed any.
Just got my celi` wieghed right now and Im at 2355lbs.. Thats including spare tire/jack plus 1.5 gallons of gas. Still need to get rid of that ac compressor and the heavy ass seats. since One gallon of gas weighs about 6.25 pounds thats 9.37 lbs of gas so 2355 - 9.37 so Im at 2345.

If they didnt I want to see one, Ive never seen one here in the states. No dealer could find an option for a 3SGE with No A/C.
Yeah, thats what ticks me off...I searched and searched. But I cant seem to find a different bracket/idler pully that allows you to acomplish this. None of BGB's show one nor could any of the 3 dealers pull up a drawing of the bracket.
lol, that's because they lack imagination. get a 3sfe bracket and cut the top of the loop off. mount your alt to it and trim accordingly until you get a good fit.
I pulled one of a 90 GT and hacked it up and ditchd the idler pulley. Either way Ive still never seen documentation on factory non-AC GT-S
As I remember from the 82 Rabbit I built up a few years back, the carpet can add upto 200 lbs depending on it's condition. The headliner, visors, door panels, rear seat and belts would easliy be close to another 150 lbs. then you can start working with the weight that you need, and move it around to get the best balance possible. things like moving the battery into the rear. stuff like that. if your interested, i can give you a list of what i did to the rabbit to make it crazy quick and sticky in everything from tarmac to snow...I'm also planning to apply these tricks to the celica I plan to buy soon.
Good advice and welcome to the boards aubeone! There's also a buttload of sound deadening matting under the carpet which probably weigh's a lot as well...
