hm since there is the layer of plastic in front of the bulbs, what is the difference of the bottom indicator lights going from regular bulbs to LEDs? it looks the same in picture but it doesn't show the whole indicator logo??

I replaced them with the LED's because I had an annoying white/yellow and green mix. I also had a blown light on one as well. The reason why I replaced them was because I wanted to get a white light-up instead of the white/yellow and green mix. hahaha.. Nah it was pretty hard to capture the light as well, its just one of those things you have to see with your eyes, instead of the camera capturing the shot.

cool! the bulbs with the green shit on them, they're just rubber covers that go on top. lots of them are burnt onto the bulb but they come off!

Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to do a motor conversion from a 3SGE to a beams motor.. Also if anyone knows more about the beams motor's than I do, haha. I'm looking into the possibilities of get the BEAMs RedTop put in, but I'm currently researching the background of the motor, what performances upgrades I can do, and what is basically involved.. If anyone can help that would be GREAT!

It can be done. I currently know of three ST162s that has the conversion, including st162rocket's car and mine (all three cars are red, lol).

    Performance upgrades?
    - There are several aftermarket exhaust headers, but all of them are quite rare and discontinued afaik (HKS, Toms, TRD)
    - And you can make a custom exhaust system
    - HKS and SARD provides professional intake kits, both are quite expensive, and the experiences with them are mixed. This engine is super sensitive on the intake things, so it's better to keep it oem, but in the other case an SAFC might be needed to get the full potential from the intake kits. I use an A'pexi power intake filter, it fits in the oem air box.
    - There are different turbo and supercharger conversations as well, but that's a different league.
    - One more NA option is the quad throttle bodies, but again you have to have some backup on your ECU or have an aftermarket standalone one, so to put it in two words: super expensive.
    - I f you ask me, I won't touch my engines internals, only for one exception: the BlackTop BEAMS parts. Swapping over connecting rods and pistons would mean slightly more compression (11.5 instead of 11.0), and the titanium valves & valve springs are like half the weight compared to the RedTop's valves. But again, these are very rare and hard to find.

hahahaha, I will, by than the way people are talking. It gonna be a pretty expensive build..

I went to a Brisbane TOCAU group meet - [url="h....toyotaownersclub.com/forums/i ... -from-8pm/[/url] last night and had a chat to a few mechanics that go to the meet, about what I'm trying to do.

They were saying its probably best to keep the stock 3SGE motor.. Recondition it, stick some upgraded parts on it, and turbo it..

Apart from costs, spec and performance wise what would be the differences between the BEAMs and the 3SGE. Also another person had suggested that I go with a 3SFE. All im really after is to get as much performance out of the motor as I can but at the same time a freshened up motor to keep the car going GREAT again. Also I want to take it on the track. Also if it helps its a FWD unfortunately.

I know perfect canvas to work with, but it is a very tidy celica.

if you are gonna boost the 3sge, just buy the 3sgte. lol

the 3sfe is not a performance motor.

Yea, you should buy a 3SGTE from an ST185 or MR2, and an LSD. It will a help a lot on the track. If I could start over my project, I'll definatelly do the same!

LionTR, I made a research but it seems that your old posts are gone.

Where does your Beams motor come from?
    I've read that it's a 4th generation 3SGE. The production began in 1997.
Installed in MR2, Celica st202 SSII and III, Rav and Altezza.
Can also be a 5th generation 3SGE engine with dual-VVTi, but exclusively from Altezza RS200.

My engine came from an MR2.

    4th gen 3SGE types:
    - RedTop: Celica, MR2, Caldina (FWD, I know, MR2 is not FWD, but engine orientation and transmission is the same, apart from a few differences)
    - GreyTop: Rav4 (AWD)
    - BlackTop: Altezza (RWD)

There is no 5th gen, the BlackTop in the Altezza is Dual VVTi. There are some other differences as well, but because it was made in the same time, it's not a different generation in my understanding :)

    Sorry for the off-topic!

Thanks... did you make a thread relating the adaptation into your Celica engine bay?

I think I wrote it down on the mr2 board BEAMS section. I can search it and send you in a pm if you wish.

    mr2.com/forums? Beams group?
    Yes, post the link, please.

And why not writing down a thread about this Beams adaptation here too? :wink
