Hi, got a 87 sx with a 3sge. The right side (aussie spec drivers side) radiator fan blades melted a bit a few months ago and not again until now.

2 nights ago, i went for a long drive and when i stopped i head a nasty noise, checked it and the blades had melted beyond use. When the fan comes on, the car shakes like a bad motor mount but stops with the fan so they must be okay.

I have aftermarket extractors (no idea what/if any good), running within 2 mm of the fan shroud. when the engine revs i guess it gets close enough to have melted the blades. the extractors have been in the car for a few years on 2 different engines and havnt caused this problem except these 2 times.

I've been told on here before that a 3s-fe celica would have the front mount fan i need. called a few wreckers today, no good so far.

The front mount fan is a temporary fix, i need to go through and flush the cooling system and such, but i need to get to work so having the car off the road while i wait for a 3s-fe fan is probably not an option.

Will a newer celica radiator fan be suitable for this? there are a number available for a few different models.

    Thanks.

there are many fans that can be made to fit, id start off wrapping your header and down pipe in some heat wrap to prevent melting the next one, and perhaps fab up some rad supports and move it towards the front somemore.

thank you good idea ill price some heat wrap next time im out, what would you expect to pay per meter?

Got a davies craig thermo fan today, goin to try put it in tomorrow. I'm going to take off the aircon radiator and put the fan in that place, front mounted, then see about new brackets. time for a cooling system check again before its all too late.
