I just live without power steering. In case I do want to perform the procedure any tips ?

I'll probably wait until I pull the engine seeing as I have another rack & pinion to go in but it never hurts to be aware of the potential problems.

Watch out my mother in-laws, they tend to hide in power steering lines!

Pretty straightforward, the worst part is trying to get the top PS pump mounting bolt in and out due to the very limited clearance and vision. It helps to have an assortment of U-joints; 14mm crow's feet; long reach, offset, 'S' and 'C' curved obstruction wrenches. Make sure you clean the threads and apply a liberal dose of lube or grease to get it threaded easily.

I've done it twice now and the first time was fairly quick; the second time, it took me forever to get the bolt lined up.......arrrrghh! I'm so glad it's over!

Also, the '89 BGB says you can remove the PS pump through the tie rod hole but I haven't been able to accomplish that feat. I think it's physically impossible. Don't waste your time, just drop the cross member and remove it via the bottom.

    Cliff notes:
The worst part is getting the top PS pump bolt in and out.

p.s I'll take a pic of my driveway sometime to show the awesomous that is PS pump.
