I though AINET and M-BUS are the same, no? Maybe they share the same "DIN" conector but use different logic? I don't know much about Alpine, need to do more research.

I found a non-color coded pin-out to make a cable, but the Alpine cables aren't that expensive, so I'm just going to ebay one today. http://kiora.ath.cx/alpine/7513din.gif

ai-net and m-bus are two totally different technologies....the ai-net is more akin to usb 9.0 (lol) where as m-bus is more akin to the old a/t keyboards with only 7or8 signal wires, they are not interchangble between ai and m-bus

so I decided to do the M-BUS din hack using the pinout diagram I found. I already had the 1/8" to chop, so I took a short ride to the local elec store for the generic 8-pin din jack. $3.30+tx.
The signal ground is the top middle pin, R,L are on both sides of the signal ground. Pretty simple solder job with some heat shrink and done. :D Took apart the dash, popped-in the cable, fired-up the deck, enabled the AUX input and viola, DIY 1/8">M-BUS din! I was quite surpirsed, it doesn't sound bad at all. :D

you did all that to hook up your CD player to your cd player? :?

so what're all the other pins supposed to be for?

    40gb mp3 player actually.

    According to the pin-out it's:

    Signal ground
    R ch
    L ch
    Data Bus
    Data Ground
    Battery
    Ignition
    Power Supply Ground

    Pretty much self explanatory.

It really wasn't much work. Most of time was spent on research.

Quality is a bit limited between the quality of the cable, the Nomad and of course of the mp3's.

    Thanks!
It's so big because these use laptop HD's.
Put together an overview and audio sample if you want to hear it.

Yep, you can get those on ebay for ~$10-20 either with RCA's or 1/8", the Ipod ones are more pricey. Pfft, I made one for like $4 :D I've taken apart the dash sooo many times, it takes me like 5 min now. I might make another one using nicer audio cables, but the prototype works just fine.
