I need a cable and just want to hook my mp3 player up as opposed to constant burning of CDR's of music to play in my car. Any 1st hand knowledge would be appreciated and/or opinions.

hooking radios up are easy if u have a wiring diagram.

not sure what cable ur takling about but no matter what it shouldnt be $40 lol

and yes there are so, so, so many CHEAP copies of ipods, car radios, etc that wont even last a week.

I know how to install the deck, I have the wiring diagram and it has the full wiring harness. I'm talking about using the aux-input on the deck. The crutchfield link shows the cable. Since it's an IP-Bus deck, It has a specific/unique input jack where a certain cable must be used or you can't use the aux input feature. Maybe there's someone on here that has used one of the 3rd party cables?

HA, the 'net rules! I knew there had to be people with work-arounds. :D Tons of people have essentially hacked the pins-outs and made a $2 cable, and not just for Pioneer.
These are the specific pioneer links in no particuliar order for the DIY cable:

    http://www.randgruppe.info/ipbus/
    http://www.vitat.spb.ru/eng/index.php?L1=ip-bus

I'm sure the same principle technique could be applied to other decks.
Here's the pin-outs for a variety of diff. brand decks:

Ok so now, I need to get my hands on the deck, study it to verify which is diagram is correct (aparently, there's a possibility of some variation depending on deck models) and the grab the DIY parts at the elec store.

It's interface cable designed to allow the deck to control a cd changer or in other cases ipod control and charge. Actually quite a few decks have them now. I understand why they use it now, but it sucks for my purpose since that I just need a plain rca or 1/8"-in for my 40gb NJB3 (Nomad Jukebox3). Hope the guy calls me back, I'm tired of my POS deck I have now.

I'm not blown away with it so far, but 105-110db s/n speaks for itself and it's waaay better than what I was running.

The Alpine Isn't an "IP-Bus" but an "M-bus" deck since it's "Alpine". Same thing really, just a little different cable

well pretty much all the top companies make great decks, my friends just assumed because it was an alpine, it was better. didn't even play MP3's  . for my purposes though, my clarion is perfect. owners manual kinda sucked though

for me alpine with the AI net all the way....awsome sound and you can hook up anything you want to the AI net and the alpine will damn near control everything. M-BUS isnt bad but AI net blows it away.
