Actually picked up one and half pieces worth of all trac today...

Two sets of skirts, complete connectors for the skirts to the bumpers. Two sets of rocker panels. Immaculate rear bumper.

Unfortunately the front bumper has seen better days...

I'm still missing the moldings that go above the skirts but I'm not sure if my existing moldings will work. Either way I'm picking those up in the next few days along with some more random all trac crap. Not bad score for $50. I got two working original fogs two but one is missing the lens cover.

I worked on repairing the front bumper today. Since all the torn areas were just cuts and not missing pieces I used a soldering gun to fuse the plastic parts together. Then I used plastic epoxy glue to hold the pieces with duct tape while it dries. Now finally I cover the area with JB weld 24hr in preparation for sanding, then bondo, then sanding again.

Good work and a good idea with the soldering gun.

JB Weld......... I have a tube of similar stuff and patched an exhaust with it and it was still there 5 years later when I sold it.

Considering the bumper is plastic you must have roughed it up quite a bit so it would stick better ?.

Could you take a close pic up of one of the welds.

I roughed it up when I sanded it after I soldered it together. Unfortunately its already been covered with bondo and prepped for paint so I can't take any more pictures.

I did run into one issue though. One of the sections of the bumper I "overdid" the melting process and burned up the plastic. Since its the underside of the bumper you can't see it so thats ok. Just be aware that using something as hot as a soldering gun can burn the plastic and prevent it from bonding.

BTW, looks good. Parts for our cars are hard to come by and sometime this is just what you have to do. Keep it up!

Thanks. I'm almost ready to put it on. The rest of the kit doesn't need any work. I'll be following what Mephtar did in his build thread and going without side mouldings for now since I don't have them.

You can find his build thread here: http://www.st162.net/forum/showthread.php?71-Mephs-89&highlight=meph

Sadly his thread hasn't been updated in three years.

you should separate the plastic pieces from the actual bumper. many metal parts inside are rusting/rotting and should be rustproofed!

No joke there. The entire rear bumper metal was rusted out completely. Which worked out because the rear bumper does not simply bolt onto the st162 chassis. I had to remove the rear bumper cover from the all trac and use my existing bumpers metal to mount it. Thankfully my current bumper was completely rust free and swapping wasn't too bad.

Everything is bolted on and ready for paint tomorrow. Pics soon!

    Good Stuff.

This gives me more confidence for when I have a go at repairing my original splitter with 'plastic welding'.

I have a handy little gas powered soldering pen with numerous tips and flame throwers which should do the trick I reckon.

Here's a question for you all........... after cleaning and trimming the splitter, what sort of plastic would/could I use to melt on areas that need some extra adhesion ie... the verticle bars ????

Correct, once you 'burn' plastic your screwed, it won't bond.

On our Bumper's you will not be able to plastic we have a rubber type plastic it just melt's away when trying to weld the best stuff is Q-bond I don't if you guy's have that stuff around there but there is other bonding glue around there that can plastic weld or fill holes. On the spoiler you could use other plastic of the same material to melt and it will bond.

Yes I dipped the car. I used a Wagner spray gun combined with two gallons of plastidip+thinner.

Spray cans are for the wheels.
