new member $600 convertible

Discussion in 'Your 4th Gen beauty' started by ST162vertnigel, Oct 8, 2013.

  1. I'm an st162 newbie and I will try to keep this story short. This is my convertible I bought from my auto tech program. This car was donated by the original owner because it had a few problems (oil leaks, high idle, etc..) she didn't want to put anymore money in to it. This car was garage kept in southern California it's entire life and came with all the papers. After my class worked on that car, all the problems were resolved for the most part, there was no use for it anymore. In my class every once in a while they would sell some of these fixed cars. the school can't make profit from the cars by law, so I bought the car for $600.

Welcome from the UK Nigel. Tell us more about the work you've done on it and what your plans are for it.

  3. The car came with all the maintenance papers from the past 25 years. from 2005-2012
the car had $11,000 put into major repairs; full engine rebuild, clutch replacement, this car had money flying at it.
Things that I replaced were, the weather stripping around the windows and the valve cover gasket.
The window switches didn't work so I sanded the contacts. Things that need to be done: heater core needs to be replaced or flushed, I also need new trunk hinges. I've been very happy with the car.:)

That's crazy a year has passed since I bought my vert (now gone) but I only saw one 4th gen since and it was beat down ....no wonder why nobody on your side of the country thinks they are rare...I see an rx7 convertible like myn everyday tho weird how that works

damn!! shit looks clean . detail pics please

  10. The weatherstripping came from an st162 coupe I found at my local junkyard. All I did was measure each section of old weatherstripping that is along the windows. Then I carefully cut the coupe's weatherstripping into pieces to match the old sections. The weatherstrip on the top of the windshield is original, I've driven in some heavy downpours and It hasn't leaked yet!

Arlington huh? Welcome from Marysville! Where at in arlington? We need to have a meetup as soon as my swap is done in mine! I ran into someone at the Safeway in Marysville last week with a beat up 87 gt...I talked to the guy about the forum but he didnt seem interested...Its amazing how many I see around here although mine is still the only All-Trac I've seen in person!

Ha I think I just passed you on 67th ave between Arlington and marysville!

  14. Yes you did! That day was a rough one. I was leaving Goodwill when I noticed a van parked extremely close to me but, I was in a hurry so I didn't look my car over. When I got home I glanced at the passenger side of my car and felt sick when I noticed dents all over that side of my car! :cuss:mad: My car only had only two dents prior.

I was on my way to Pick-N-Pull when I passed you. They had a couple ST162's in pretty great condition the week prior. You could have gotten some new side pannels...But I think they have been crushed by now...I wasn't really looking for parts for my car but I didn't notice a single 162 sitting in the yard anymore (I was kind of pre-occupied though)

  17. At Pick-N-Pull there was a celica gts in mint condition about three months ago. I only got the grill trim from it. :banghead I think it will be fixable I will just go to a body shop.

Hi, I'm also a new member from Washington (in Seattle, grew up in Marysville) who got a 4th gen convertible for $1000! Mine was also either garaged or in California for its whole life. I'm pretty sure we're pretty much the same person? My car's white though.

Haha yeah, I still go to Marysville occasionally (and I go to Arlington to get cigarettes for cheaper) so I'll keep an eye out! That's awesome news about the all-trac.

My brother (who lives in Marysville) has a blue '86 Celica GT, so you might see him, but he doesn't have the same Celica enthusiasm that I do.
