How many people would be interested in custom or OEM grille badges?

I am a hobbyist 3D designer so I can design them easily and I can upload the designs to Shapeways to have them printed.

Just wondering how many people would be interested in them to see if it would be worth the (small amount of  ) effort.

Well if anyone has a micrometer and can get me all the exact measurements (in mm) of the original badge I can model almost anything out of it.

You have a post-facelift grille, right? I'm making the base model facelift badge now.

    Stickers? http://www.shapeways.com is a 3d printing service :D

If you can make this badge exactly as the oem I would say you could make
    some money.

This badge would be nice too...

I can make anything, I just need exact dimensions and a good resolution of the text from a dead on angle.

If that GT-Four badge is yours could you take some pictures of the sides and back and get some measurements for me?

    These measurements:

Yea, the gt-four badge is not mine, found the image online. I know Stig has one
so hopefully you could talk him into giving you exact measurements. I should be coming into
the other badge soon and when I do I will measure it up for you. This is a great idea because
we need reproduction oem pieces for our cars. Hopefully our cars will be looked upon as classics
one day and have a whole catalog of repro parts (ie mustang, etc.) :fingersx
What do you think the cost will be to have these produced?

I hope it's soon! :mrgreen I don't want to have to use the word 'technically' when I say I have a classic car :smilielol5

Using the original ABS material I'm quoted at AU$37.50 for the normal 'TOYOTA' thin badge (like in your sig) without lettering.

Of course I will be modelling the lettering too, anyone who buys it will just have to spray on some paint themselves.

Honestly I think the quote is a little high because I think you would be hard pressed to
find many buyers for a thin style Toyota badge for $40 + usd. I would think that there are
quite a few of those badges out there. On the other hand the GT-FOUR badge is rare JDM
gear and I would think that if you did a initial run of 20 or so you would have no problem
selling all of them for 60 + usd (I don't know, just guessing). I do think the lettering should be painted before selling though. Hell, I want one. :cool

Here is something I have noticed on ebay. Evidently this guy has had these grill badges made
and he will sell one at a time. As soon as one auction ends, he will list another. He has gotten
as much as $144 for one of these. The lowest I have seen one go for is $45, but he has sold
many for $100+, so there is some demand.

Yeah I think the price is pretty high too for only a little bit of plastic.
I believe it costs so much because they will be printed using a 3d printer as opposed to injection molding; which is cheaper, but has a much higher startup cost.
    The reason I say people would have to paint the badges themselves is because of shipping costs;
If I were to paint them and then sell them that's ~$40 + ~$17 postage to me and then I'd have to post them again, and if I wanted to get any sort of profit that's coming up to around ~$70 apiece. I definitely wouldn't pay that for a bit of plastic

What badge is that? Never seen it before.

I'm thinking the GT-Four and turbo 4wd badges would be the most in demand out of the lot of them, so if I can get some exact dimensions for it I can make an accurate model and then if I can find 10 or so people interested I could get a bulk print done (one shipping box = cheaper) and paint them myself.
I could also make completely custom badges ( eg. lonewolf's turbo 2wd, names etc. ) for about the same price if I don't paint them, due to the shipping costs mentioned previously.

Regardless of everything, I'll be modelling a bunch of badges and other small parts just because I can :hehe If anyone wants them printed I can upload them to Shapeways and you can buy them from there.

What program do you use to make your 3d models ? I used to use 3D Studio Max like 10 years ago.

    Blender 3d.

Lots of people claim the interface is horrible and hard to understand, but it is the most consistent interface in any program that I have ever seen.

I've tried 3DS MAX before, too much clicking for me :p
