Well I got a bit of money I can put towards my car so I thought I'd get some new headers. Anyone know of any that would work for my car which has that EGR crap? - It has that copper pipe that connects to the headers (not sure what it's for though).

Also what kind of work is needed to remove the EGR stuff? Is it complicated?

    Thanks.

egr is not in the headers, its in the no.4 exhaust runner, and it is simple to remove... like under 10 bolts, you will need to fab up a few adapter plates though to block off where the egr bolted too. theres two bolts on the head by the vale cover end, and two on the intake.. and some misc bracketry

Oh yeah I know that the EGR is not in the headers, I meant that, that pipe from the EGR connects to the headers so I was wondering if there's a set of headers with a similar hole for that bolt on pipe.

Do you have any pics of what to take off and what to fab up? Because if I could manage doing it I could easily make something in metal works to block off where the EGR bolted too. I don't have to do an e-test in my city so it wouldn't be a problem taking it off - gain a bit of hp from it.

i used some ebay headers for a 2nd gen mr2, the ones that are shaped to clear the starter motor, but it was a lot of work to get them on. If you dont own a welder and grinder and have 20 hours to spare playing with ti and the existing exhaust system dont bother

I have a brand new, in the box OBX header for the 3SFE/3SGE that I never used. I paid $215 a few years ago. I'd sell it for $150 + shipping.

It's the same one as what you can find on eBay. It has the same dimensions as the Pacesetter header which I have installed before with no problems.

I don't doubt that there have been issues with some products fouling on the starter, but I really don't see how that is possible here. #1 I've installed a header on the car before that is the exact same size is this one. #2 The header tapers away from the starter. I guess I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Hmm I'd be interested in those OBX headers as long as they do in deed fit.

The only problem is I got that pipe that is part of the EGR, so how would that work because those OBX headers don't have that? Also those OBX headers have a similar spot for the o2 sensor right?

    This pipe:

Well I can't ensure that it does fit. I haven't tried to put it on a GE. That is a risk you would have to take. If it didn't work out you could always sell it to an FE guy.

Don't worry about the o2 sensor. It does have a fitting for it in a similar spot.

As far as that funky EGR thing.......dunno. You're going to have to use your brain for that problem. :D

Hmm yeah trying to resell it would be a pain and I am not sure either about the EGR pipe because I don't know anything about it. I want to take the whole EGR system off like the JDM engines but I don not know how to do that or what to disconnect.

No more a pain than what I'm doing with you this very moment.........

All you need are block off plates......I'm sure there is a post in here somewhere that outlines what you have to do. If not here, then CElicatech.com or Alltrac.net. I dunno how to do it cuz I have JDM engines.

imo.....save some cash and just buy a flange, hell make a flange for your head, and get some 2 1/2 " madrel tube and fab your own exhaust i am not a fan of aftermarket manis, runner profiles dont line up as good as something you can create. as for your egr, heres a pic of all the shit you dont need.. get some cardboard and make a templat of the holes, then cut them out of like 1/8 " steel... you can do it in like 2 hours tops...

well put........I will say, however, that the obx unit is the nicest one I've ever seen for the 4th gen.

Thanks a bunch for the pic GT2. Few questions though:

    1. what all needs to be blocked off? (Just the header hole?)
    2. For the charcoal canister it's only the right tube (black one) that's removed right?
    3. As for the tubes that connect near the top of the pic, and others, how would you block those? A screw?
    4. If I don't disconnect it all / block off everything what's the worst that could happen?

Sorry for the amount of question; I am not that mechanically inclined yet. Still trying to learn it all. Also I am ALWAYS worried about messing something up. But this is something I want to attempt.

As for making my own headers; yikes, that is beyond my know how. I know how to weld but not very good.

lol learning is half the fun man... lol

the charcoal canister just needs a line into the untake, so vapours can be burned, in that pic, its routed through the egr, but ends ip in the same spot, the tb. you will need to block off the header hole, and where it bolts to the intake. the tubes are just vacume lines, i dont know ge's very well. but they will either be useless without the egr, or they will feed off something else and just need to be routed, and if you dont disconnect/block everything off... you will have massice vacume leaks, (cause of the giant hole in your intake) and every time you start the car, a little thing called fire will shoot out of the hole in your exhaust mani.....

Hehe when it comes to cars, I actually want to learn stuff. lol so I edited your pic to what I think needs to be done; I just want you too confirm it. Also whats the best way to block off those vacuum lines you were talking about? Also there is only 2 things that need plates right? - header and "EGR Valve".

not to bad i must say, theres a few things we will have to change though..lol i got looking at it tonight, you dont even need to touch the charcoal canister, it just runs into the bvsv, and then on into the tb, the only thing you need to remove are the egr valve, and the vacume modulator.

    now. . . .
class is in.... lol the bvsv stands for bi-vacume-switching-valve, prettymuch its a tempreature controlled switch, since its located in the water outlet it will warm with the engine, once it hits a certain temp, it opens and allows the tb to create a vacume and suck in the fumes from the charcoal canister. its not apart of the egr system, it is part of the evap sys. (evaportive emissions control) and all the canister does is store vapours when the engines off, then sucks them in when its running in ot... the whole point of egr is to recirculated burned gasses through the egr valve, and sucked into the engine, to lower combstion tempreatures. so there will be 4 bolts (2 on the ex. mani, and two on the intake) then toss that bitch out...block off the holes on the exhaust ant intake (use decent steel, and seal it good skippy, or vaume and exahaut leaks WILL happen) as for the modulator, it should have a lame "C" like bracket holding it on, you should be able to pull it off. . . litterally.. then like two bolts holding on the bracket, mark all the vacume lines you pull off (1, 2, 3, ect. . ) makes it easier. as for plugs for the tb, you may be on your own there, for the time being, put a bolt in the end of the vacume lines, (not in the tb itself....) till you can find a plug, post some pics of your work skippy... keep me posted.. oh heres another pic that may help...lol you can always add my msn if you have any q's, lol im always on,

AWESOME!!!!!!!! Thanks sooooooo much, now I understand what it does. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow before I go to work. Though I won't be able to do anything until monday or tuesday (working the rest of this week and the weekend). I'll definitely keep you posted and take pictures of everything I do or make a video; so when I go to start it up it shit doesn't hit the fan  . Now if practical stuff like this was taught in school then I'd be excited to go to school each day lol. Thanks again GT2, I'll add you to msn because I am also ALWAYS on. I am either at school, work, driving around, or sitting at my comp reading things on here.

Edit: argh I want to do it right now!. Too bad it's 11pm.

Whoa! You guys did a bunch of talking while I was sleeping......zzzzzzzz.

I think I did luck out with the OBX unit.....anyone who has it probably lucked out. You usually can't say that about aftermarket headers......just ask anyone who bought the pacesetter crap. I can vouch for that!

If it turns out that someone want the OBX unit lmk......
