key wont turn in ignition

    gfs 1.8l 96 golf ignition wont turn at all...blaaaaaaaa.... moved the wheel around alot and such and eventually locked it and still wont turn....nothing else seems to be working. its a 5 sp. lalala any ideas? :)

    oh and hi again, i coulda asked somewhere else but i know people answer here fast <3

    well its a VW for starters . . .lol id vote if at all you cant get the key to turn either you or she has fucked the key switch. just pull it out of the collum and have a look at it, im not much of a v-dub savyy.. but chances are if you cant get any movement, the key has busted one of the ramps in the cylinder and its preventing it from turning. good luck,

    no we figured its just a pos. just have to wiggle the steering ALOT and basically move around like an idiot till it turns....why did i agree to work on that car... at least it doesnt leak coolant anymore and she doesnt get scared of the coolant light :p

    i searched some vw forums and its all about the steering column in those cars. either way we got it to work and know to not touch the steering wheel after you get out of teh car haha

    is it bloody cold in your corner of the province as well? -30 will do some weird things to a lot of car stuff....especially lock cylinders
