I found a pristine, I mean simply pristine for her age, 1986 USDM ST161 2SE/S53. She had maroon paint with a maroon/red cloth interior. The dash was in good shape. No body damage. Not even hail (which is why I'm taking the hood). This baby saw 26 years on the road and someone who clearly took car of her must've thrown in the towel with whatever her last hiccup was. It's sad.
Sorry, I didn't. I don't usually carry a camera at the yard. If you've never seen a 2SE aside from the manuals then you'll be shocked by its construction. It's friggin weird. The S53 didn't look different though. Aside from those points I was surprised to find that the car had cruise control and a sunroof (with no rust) even though it didn't have any power options. I can't imagine being the guy that in 1985/6 decided to get CC and a sunroof, but wouldn't cough up the cash for power windows or locks.
Does anyone want me to pull parts off of it? It's a coupe in GT trim. The fenders are good.....someone should pony up for them. I'll ship 'em
USDM definitely did get digital clusters. i've found the only one in a st161 with a 2s-e as well, but in an auto. it was a 1986 car. it also had the digi dash fuel sender
If they spent that much time/effort/money to do it, you would think the car wouldn't end up in the yard
you'd see that the harness is all spliced. you can't just swap it by unplugging and plugging into the new dash. the USDM 86 and 87 owner's manual even has pages about the digital cluster. i know because i've seen both the car and i have 86/87 manuals.
My mistake. Both the ST161 and ST162 got the digidash in 1986 and 1987. All were GT trim and most were ATM. Of the 10 VIN configurations amongst ST161/2s a single VIN for both the ST161 and ST162 were MTM. I'm going back to the yard to double check and make sure this isn't one of them. If it does turn out to be digidash. I will pull the parts and list them on ebay.
my 86 GT had a digital dash and it was owned by a 68 year old woman who bought it brand new. USDM did get digital dash for sure.
