Help understanding what it takes for halftrac

Discussion in 'Forced Induction' started by comatoseghost, Jul 12, 2008.

  1. I still have a hard time imagining what parts would make up a successful turbo FWD celica or halftrac. What do you need to swap a celica 3sgte? What drive shafts transmission setup etc do you use?

And with an mr2 setup, once again what parts do you use/what do you need to really make it happen?

    I just don't get it.

Easiest way to do it is with a front clip(Motor, ECU, Wiring Harness). Use your stock tranny(Use the FE tranny if you have a GTS, as the GE Tranny has the starter on the wrong side.), and everything else from the clip. Its pretty much a direct swap.

MR2 you need to change the shift linkage because its backwards from our cars. Only worth it if you get a car with a LSD tranny.

    Whole swap in a nutshell.

Considering you've got a GTS, as a short summary:

Use original ST162 engine mounts, use original driveshafts, use original gearbox. Use a 5SFE flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. Bolt it in, then wire it up.

For an MR2, as above. Using the E series gearbox is only worth it if using LSD and its a bit of a PITA, you would need ST165 axles and engine mounts, and probably crossmembers aswell. Not sure of the specifics of that one.
