Hey Guys i have a 3s-ge in my car and once it has warmed up i get this annoying grinding noise and it is loud, but i just cant pin point where it is coming from, has anyone else had similar issues with the 3s-ge? or any ideas on where it may be coming from.

Also i had my brakes replaced a couple of months ago and now i have this aweful noise on the front right hand break as im driving, and its driving me insane

your caliper piston might be stuck out a bit, causing your brake pads to touch the rotor....take it back to the shop mang.

as for your motor noise................i dunno.

Im assuming the noise is when sitting still? you can use a long screw driver and place it to your ear and touch around the eng to pin point the noise .

ps im the noise expert at toyota

i would put my money on, you've spun one of your con rod bearings, and now its just rotating on its own independent of the rod., that would explaing your rattle.
    simple test,

drop your oil pan, and shake your con rods, they will move side to side just on the bearing itself ( thats normal) but try to move them front to back, or up and down, if they move.. guess what???

so does that mean the engine is screwed?

if that is the case it really depends, usuallly when a bearing spins it will fuck the crank pretty good, and either the main caps, or con rod and caps. in most cases the crank will either need to be machined, or replaced. and depending on the sevarity of the damage done posibly the block needs to be machined, this is in the extreme situation, you could just have a valve guide worn and its ticking when the valve closes. get a stethascope and have a listen around. it can be many many things.. just diagnose your car... check you oil for metal too.... another tell tale sign of damage....

ok cheers i will look into it,

this will obviously explain why i have prob lost power, as my car doesnt go all that good any more, but then again it is only a 3s-ge

My car blew its bearings with in 3 weeks of owning it , so took it to my mechanic had the choice of engine swap, or bottom end rebuild , i went for the rebuild ended up being sweet no crank damage or anything :D i guess i got off lucky.

at the time i just wanted a car i could drive everyday and learn in.

if i had just got it say now i would of swaped the engine to a later gen 3sge

id think a gte head would just lower compression and have a less aggressive cam so it would likely just lose power
