So i finally got the trac running good again thanks to a Brand spanking new TVIS assembly (300 bucks!) anyhow now that shes up and running strong i have a few things i want to start doing. Firts i need to replace my wheel bearing on the drivers side, its smoked and growling like mad, 2nd i got a Brand new but old ass HKS manual boost controller its from the mid 90's and its for the 165 or so the part numbers say. I hunted all over trying to find the answer to my first question to no avail.So... How much boost should i run i know the ct26 is worthless over 15psi but i dont want to run that much i was thinking like 8 or 9psi? The car has : 1st gen GTE, 5sfe 2.2 crank, 88 3sge NA cam, new headgasket and a gutted exhaust with a factory fitted futaba muffler. As for my 2nd question (it doesnt fit in the turbo section but, are these wheel bearing a PITA to replace?
wheel bearings are easy to replace with the right tools. (without them good friggin luck) you can just use a press to remove and install them. you may have fucked the hub if she was glowing red. the hub will take a bit to get off. strut to knuckle bolts @ 200 ftlbs x 20 years = fun to break loose. plus you gotta break the half shaft nut loose, tie rod end, lower ball joint, ect... the ct 26 runs usually in the area of 10 psi. now heres my question, what pistons are you using? if your using 5s-fe pistons, there not meant to take boost, (10 1/2:1 or higher) anything over 6psi on n/a pistons tends to melt them, sure some ppl may have got lucky and got away with it, but it never will never last.
