89 Celica Alltrac Value?

What do you value an 89 Alltrac that has been sitting for 5 years, but is in great shape body wise, no rust, good paint, good interior. Engine has good compression, but need some wiring issues addressed. I knew this car five years ago and it was pristine. Since it has grown an inch of fuzz, and the interior leaked a little in the trunk. Just curious if $1500 seems fair? I know you can't see it, but just curious. Thanks

It's hard to say without seeing the car. Take pics and post them.

^Ditto, get some pics up, but from what you described, $1500 doesn't seem out of the ballpark, sight unseen. Does the car run with the wiring issues?

Car does not run right now, but has great compression and turns over. I can post a couple of pics of it 5 years ago. Unfortunately I won't have pics of it for another week or so as I'm out of town right now. I have known of the car for six years, but the owner wasn't ready to sell it. I spoke with the shop who has it now and they said it is nasty from sitting. Unfortunately this was an awesome car that got parked due to the wiring issue and is rotting away. It's in the south, so there is no rust. I'm sure it is saveable though.

Yeah, you could get lucky here.

1500 is a steal regardless of the unknown situation.

MattC recently pulled apart an engine to find mostly every thing to be reusable.

Buy it and take it home for closer inspection but don't try and start it yet.............. take some time to think about it first :cheers

I might just pick it up, wash it, clean interior, and garage it until I have more time. I'm sure it can only go up in value. I just don't want to dump $4k into getting it on the road, when I can buy one roadworthy for that price. Realistically it will probably take $2k to get it on the road, and hopefully it will clean up ok.

Good move, take your time and give it a decent detail including engine bay and underneath so you can see where your at.

Once again, just because a car has been sitting for 5 years doesn't mean there is anything seriously wrong with it.

Do all your fluids, seals, filters, plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor button, check timing blah blah blah.

The brake rotors are bound to be rusty but depends how bad but you can have them shaved but better with new anyway........... of course new pads.

Fuel/tank may be an issue but others here know better.

You get the gist, BUY THAT SUCKER NOW :cheers

haha thanks for the input. I will probably have hands on it in the next two weeks. I'll get some before (as it sits) pictures, and some after the pressure washing takes place.

First of all, buy the car. The pics speak volumes to me so long as there isn't any hidden damage I'm unable to see. Secondly, I think you're crazy if you think you're going to spend $2-4K to get it running. If you bought a swap and paid someone to do the wiring for you and then install it.....you wouldn't pay $2000 even then. So where are you coming up with those ball park numbers?

BTW, where are you located? DO any members live near you?

I'm thinking for a wire harness (if I can even find one), tires, going through all the brake system, engine seals, etc. I would rather shoot high on the $2k side, but I guess you are correct it's not really going to cost that much. I'm located north of Atlanta, Ga.

Buy it - even as spares you'd make cash
What was the wiring issue? in the pics looks like somebody was fooling around under the hood

Not sure exactly. I think the mechanic who has it now said it needed an ignitor or something. I won't know more until I have my paws on it. Should be sometime next week.

Sounds like it may have had the dreaded dead spark issue
You need to check out Dave's (ST165XXX) thread cuz it's not an issue with the ignitor, coil or dizzy

Still new to the forum and learning to navigate. Can you link me to that thread? Thanks

Just read his thread....yeah maybe that is what caused it to be parked.... I know they were searching wiring and no spark. Sounds like I have some homework to do when I pick this baby up.

So did you buy it yet?

Not yet. Been trying to buy it for 6 years, went to Canada last week (where I am now) and got a message back from the guy saying he's ready to sell. I'm going to make the 1200 mile drive to pick it up in the next few days. I'll keep everyone posted. I have other stuff to take care of, so the drive isn't completely for the car, but it is a major part of why I am going.
