  3. Hey guys...quick question. Anyone know if you run coolant or just plain like distilled water or something in the IC? The guy who fixed the exhaust and IC pipe for me here at a performance shop said you supposed to just put water in the IC. Just flushed the radiator and its running a bit better now having coolant instead of just water in there. So yeah anyway...if anyone knows about the IC that would be helpful.

    Thanks,

Well, I guess down in TN you don't have to worry about freezing temperatures. However, coolant has some anti-corrosion inhibitors, lubricating qualities, so I'd put some in there for sure. You could get away with 25-30% coolant to 70-75% distilled water.

  5. Just to clarify something guys, 2nd Gen 3S-GTE takes 4.2 quarts of oil, correct?

Dodge Hemis are gay as hell, however good kill! We had a tow off at the dealership i work at with a New 5.7 Tundra and a New dodge with the 5.7 hemi. The tundra dragged that pile of garbage across the lot with minimal effort.

Cool car, too bad the cs vent in the hood is wrongly positioned...it should be straight over your Intercooler to be effective.

for your intercooler, NO water, only the goodstuff !!

I've looked at a CS hood and the vent looks correctly positioned to me. The heat comes off the turbo and manifold, so it gets vented out.

true, but if I'm not mistaken it's ment to vent the intercooler, getting cooler air in your inlets :)

  12. I've been told that the half dollar sized inlet hole was originally designed to let cool air at the timing belt in the WRC cars. Any truth in that? :?:

I would guess if anything it trying to get more cold air to the poor old altenator thats cooking itself to death under the hood. The only way I could see them cooling the timing belt is if it looks like you could hook some sort of duct work from the hole to the timing belt cover.

As far as placement is concerned since you have a WTA intercooler the placement looks pretty good, it could have maybe gone a bit farther back since its real purpose is to vent engine heat and in most cases that heat is being pushed to the back of the engine bay by either you driving at excessive speeds or the cooling and AC fans. If you had an ATA top mount intercooler the scoop should sit directly on top of the intercooler and the scoop sould also seal around the top of the intercooler with the hood closed.

You can see that the vent is situated in front of the WTA intercooler in this ebay pic

  14. So...couple of days ago, My friend and I were driving somewhere in my car and I did an off the line acceleration to like 60. When I there was a sound like a blow off valve. We were like..."uh wait a sec...that is NOT supposed to sound like that." Opened the hood to find this pipe.

    Notice the pipe size difference.

So got the pipe from IC to the Turbo fixed. Cost me about 80 bucks for pipes and couplings. It runs way better now. I guess me idiot self just had to wait till it messed up...how dumb of me. :loco:

More pics of stereo install coming soon!

  15. Let me clarify a few things!

This is the 2nd gen RC engine, Yes I kept the RC intercooler for my MR2. The hood vent is positioned right, above the turbo. The small little side scoop was to cool the timing belt. Not the alternator, The alternator had a duct that drew air from the bottom of the car. This is a Water To Air Intercooler. I dyno'ed the car about a month before selling it on stock everything It had the RC IC on it when dyno'ed. It is the RC motor. The JDM Rally Championship engine was rated at 240hp not 225. Also the 3rd gen was rated at 245hp at the flywheel. Only 5 more than the GEN II RC engine. To provide proof of that I will post my dyno showing it. If the RC engine was rated at 225 at the flywheel how could it make these #'s on 91 pump gas stock timing, stock boost to the wheels. Just a 3" exhaust and gutted primary CAT.
BTW I am now selling the ST185RC intercooler, I am going to pickup a ST205 Intercooler for the MR2 since the 185 max flow is only good to a little over 400hp. I am going for 450 on Pump gas. So need a bigger intercooler. I am selling the intercooler for $400 shipped.

THE WHOLE REASON I DYNO'ED IT WAS TO CHECK THE DAMN AFR'S AND THE TAIL PIPE SNIFFER DIDN'T EVEN WORK!

  16. And I'm buying the ST185RC intercooler so don't you all try and get it before me!

Nice call on the RC intercooler, as its a great upgrade from the stock 165 unit, I know of a few 300bhp + cars with that charge cooler set up!

You're my inspiration B-rad (can I call you that?). Mine was the same color. Until my dumb ass went crazy with the spray paint. Anyway, your car is my sleeper inspiration.
