Quick question how much pressure can they take?

I bought stock GTE pistons and rods for my GE boosting project. How much pressure can they take?

Anyway general discussion about 3s pistons!

from what I've heard, the crank will hold 30. the rods need to be shot peened to hold 24+ and the pistons are garbage at 20

I trashed my gen 3 gte pistons at 17 psi when I got a little lean. I would definitely go for upgraded pistons if your planning on running high boost.

you went lean. doesn't matter what's in there in your case.

Can confirm on going lean. Rich will just fowl things and waste fuel, Lean can absolutely destroy your pistons or worse.

Especially with alloy pistons. Unlike steel which gets softer as it heats, Alloy stays solid until it hits its melting point then just blows out. A hot spot forms on the piston then a hole punches through the top on the next combustion stroke and sends melted alloy into your sump and oil shooting out the dipstick hole and starts a fire when it hits your exhaust.

...Well maybe not every time. But its still not pretty :p

High boost is fine, so long as your internals are up to the strain, and you have enough fuel. Its why most "safe" tunes will stop at around 90% duty cycle on your injectors / fuel pump so you will always have an adequate fuel supply.

For example, if your engine is super strong, and you have superb injectors and fuel pump, then you can boost to the moon, which is what world rally cars do (60psi) but they also wear out within a single rally. (lol)
