is the 2nd gen 3sgte as easy to do as a 1st gen? extensive modification needed? if i have to end up buying a jdm one...will that mean that i would have to find a LHD harness? can i also get links to good sites to buy motors from, cant seem to find a 1st gen 3sgte anywhere..

I believe the starter is otherwise located? You'll need all the stuff to make it work, so a complete engine. I would prefer a frontclip so you have all cabling as well. My brother in law mixed first and second gen parts...which is NO succes!

yeah front clips are a decent way to get all the goods. theres not reallly any mods to drop in a gte. just get the fwd trannie, clutch and halfshafts of your choice, then drop it in hook it up and vroooom. as for an lhd harness, that just means the ecu will be stuck in a diff spot. look at mine i have a complete tucked gen 1 harness.. anything can be done buddy :p

Only the gen1 3S-GE gearbox has the starter behind the exhaust, all others are normal.

You could just install an aftermarket ECU - check Mafix's car, or you could
go crazy & delete the AFM like Alwayzsidewayz car
With those systems you can program your motor as well

    Where are you?

In that case just buy a Gen2 or 3 GTE complete?

You could post an ad under "Parts wanted" or just PM Redrckt01,
he knows where to find stuff in the US and JPN

hmm, ive got to thinking about boosting my 3sge.
suppose i rebuilt my 3sge, so it was at top running condition, how hard would it be to boost it? would the turbo setup(manifold, turbo, intercooler, etc) bolt up?

you would need a new set of rods & pistons to drop the compression ratio & to cope with the excess cylinder pressure (boost), its like 10+:1 for the ge, add a turbo that goes to like 14+:1 which means it goes bang......

    14+:1? wow...
kinda sounds not worth it then?

    Not quite?

Std GE gen1 here is 9:1, which is OK for boost to 10psi +/-
or you could fit GTE pistons (8,5:1CR) or later Gen3 GTE pistons (8:1CR) for more boost later
it will run with those pistons in the meantime.

You can also change the CR by using thicker or thinner Head Gaskets

    1) Use your inlet manifold & std GTE exhaust manifold/custom intercooler with a FE type box/starter
    2) Use your box/starter and a custom ex manifold, custom FMIC, piping etc

I like the idea of a high comp/low boost motor -
Gives better low down pulling power
    Better gas mileage
    More reliable
    Less heat
    Less lag
    Unique?

If you want big ponies, it's easier to go buy a Gen4 GTE and start from there

As above, it's certainly do-able on a standard GE but not cheap if you want it to last longer than 5 minutes.

Add a GTE fuel rail to the above, otherwise the GE injectors will get blown straight out the first time you come on boost :p

Thats the issue my mate is having with his home brewed conversion of his ge, cost, he only wants to run say 6 - 8 psi. Its just looking easier to drop in the GTE lump for the same money. Either way he wants to fit the front LSD.

The LSD from the mk3 MR2 Roadster drops straight into the S-series boxes.

if u are going frount mount ic , use a ge side feed intake ,

and if u get 1st gen gte , use 1st gen ge camshafts.......

btw. hey alwsyzd ;), and others. what are you thinking abbot fitting a sw20 mr2 lsd in st 165 gearbox, doable ? imho it could be ,....

Yeah, way to go with the N/A cams

I'm interested to know the differences between the GE and GTE nozzles/rail?

Not all MR2 turbo's came with LSD, how do you identify them?

A mate of mine (in Africa) built a 4AGE Bluetop making 399BHP @35+psi, they used the Domingo'sECU,
plumbed in extra extra fuel and water injectors near the T/B and the fogger nozzles
into the intake runners, TRD box, LSD etc. It's impressive when it runs but unreliable as hell.

Why is everyone always trying to exceed the limits?
I said high CR/low boost - not High CR/high boost

The GTE fuel rails have a brace bar at the rear to keep the injectors in place under boost conditions.

As stated above, it's the mk3 Roadster LSD which swaps into the fwd Celica S54 transmission. The only mk2 n/a to get factory LSD as standard were rev5's - ie. going to be rare to find a donor. The mk2 turbo LSD (E153 box) won't fit into an S-series, nor will it fit the 4WD boxes. If going 4WD, just get an LSD rear from the ST205 or 185 RC/CS.

yeah we are looking at trying to find a Mk3 for my mates ST162, How hard is to actually fit the LSD to the existing box?
