i now know exaclty why the passenger axle is a bitch ;p my god those 2 random fucking bolts are so fucking annoying, god i was trying so many different wrenches, wratchets and extensions. i started stripping the bottom one at one point. its good to know u can reach them through the side rather than below haha. i discovered the best way is through the tie rod hole with proper extentions well w/e my weird sound has disappeared and can now work on better things oh yes i went back to atf from 85 140 and wow its smooth as ever so happy..
I remeber when i used to dred changing axles, after about 4 of them they become second nature and take about half an hour to change out lol. I broke both mine on my 86 GT so i put new ones in and then i had to replace one becuase the boot got tore up. Ive done countless other, Ae92 Rollas are fun and easy to do.
all trac trannies are the worst, i dont care wut anyone says. 6 allen bolts are a pita, plus you have NO room to work in and to get the axle in you have to disconnect the hub from the control arm.
k you can come do it next time haha well at least next time i know exactly the easiiest way to get it done
My passenger side axle just kinda fell out while I was putting new struts on my car...had to get it towed to a mechanic to finish the job and replace the axle. $365 should of had him do the driver side axle while he was at it.
which bolts on the gte? u better not be talking about the 6 that hold the seal in place that u dont need to take off like on the ge ;p
Why did you have so much trouble? The bolts come out easy with no problems(at least the several sets I've removed/installed here). Only one that gave me grief was the passenger side shaft when we were removing it from the last car. Bolts came out but the tranny wouldn't let go.
those bolts are a bitch to get at on the center shaft bracket thing. especially when you dont realize you can reach them through the side
wtf? what bolts!? i've removed and replaced both front axles on the alltrac. its really not difficult. the pain comes when the gland nut that holds the strut inside the casing spins free, and the moment you remove the 2 nuts/bolts that hold the strut casing to the knuckle, the suspension goes to full extension, and in the process of removing the suspension you tear an axle boot. but, if that doesnt happen to you, its pretty frickin easy. yeah, you have to remove the knuckle. big deal. 2 bolts from the suspension, some brake line crap, evil ABS... remove the calipers and rotor (just for good measure)... but, you always gotta make sure you have the necessary 30mm socket to remove the axle nut. then its just a matter of maneuvering it just right, then yanking the damned thing out.
therer is a kined shaft on the gts, second time was really easy i just didnt have all my tools first time
