This is a really simple question:

What gauge wiring is the interior wiring on our 4th Gens? For example, the mirror wiring or the cruise control wiring or the heater wiring, et cetera.

Also, I'm going to have to do a lot of splicing and reconnecting so I'm wondering what the best way might be for re attaching cut wires. I would prefer not to use any connectors at the splices. Other than that I'm all ears.

    Any suggestions?

    It's 20 or 22gauge I think.

Any opinions on heat shrink tubing or how to best connect wires for longevity?

always solder them and end with shrinktube. Don't drop a bunch of tin on it, but make it through and through, you probably know how to do that anyways. :)

Indeed I do! I wasn't sure if shrinktube was the best way to go or not. Thanks!

Shrink tube is the way the go IF you make sure your joint is nice and clean and not full of burrs or strands sticking up. If its not all that great then you need to use electrical tape. But not the 99 cents a roll crap. Only 3M super 33 or super 88 which runs about 3-4 bucks a roll. End of story, no excuses on that. Cheap tape is exactly what it is...cheap junk. If you use shrink and have strands sticking up, the solder makes them stiff and they will eventually puncture through the shrink and lead to bad things.

Seeing this post reminds me I need to finish writing up my basic soldering/wiring sticky I started a few months ago.
