Do the 3sge use the same EFI Coolant Temp Sensor as the 3sfe???
According to the local NAPA store they show the same part (My car is 1987 GT-S auto Calif car). My old one was broken; the plastic housing was completely cracked off and was giving some crazy readings.

there's 3 different coolant sensors, the same for both 3sfe and 3sge:

there's 2 here: the gold one and the green one.

you said you're getting crazy readings? i'm assuming the temp gauge? then you'd be looking to replace the gold one. no plastic pieces...
the green one just tells the ecu what temp the engine is in so it can raise the idle or not.

the other 1 is on the thermostat housing, white plug, it controls when the fans are on.

so exactly which one are you trying to replace?

I gave you the EFI WATER TEMP test before

But the WATER TEMP GUAGE sensor is also the same for fe & ge
if you need a WATER TEMP GUAGE sensor you can get a
-Yazaki sensor which measures up from 140 F
-Nippondenso which measures up from 122 F

Thanx guys for all your help and quick responses.
The EFI temp sensor was completely cracked around the plastic housing. The gauge would read slightly high after the engine warmed-up and the car didn't feel like it had full power. On a whim I did a temp repair w/ silicon sealer and epoxy and after that it ran at slightly below half with strong power. Yesterday I bought the new sensor from NAPA and it ran great at slightly below half but a couple times would creep up to over half or more and ran OK but not great. This morning I put the old "repaired" one back in and it appears to be back to half or below and running good. I'll probably just return the Chinese NAPA part today. I don't really feel comfortable with the Micky Mouse repair but what can I do??

Buy an OEM sensor from Toyota, it's allways worth it to at least check the price sometimes their pretty competitive sometimes their just ridiculous

I went to the boneyard this weekend and there were no fewer than four 4th gens. .. Two GT-S, a GT and an ST coupe. I snagged a buttload of sensors, relays, vac hoses and other small stuff. The two 3SGE's still had complete T-VIS mani's but I couldn't get one due to various reasons . I did get a pristine exhaust mani with nice heat shield and O2 sensor, a practically new alternator and a complete distributor with good wires and center plate for the valve cover. All this was about $120 so I have a few back up parts for the Burpcar, which by the way is running good since I replaced a bad radiator fan, relay and EFI temp sensor.

The gold one... what thread size is that? I'm looking into an aftermarket coolant water temp gauge and thinking about using that hole or is that not accurat enough due to the placing?
