well basically i am wanting to know which brand of headers you all have. i think this is the hardest thing to find for my 89 gt-s. obx makes one for the st/gt, pacesetter makes the same. kind of lost on finding a good aftermarket one since trd doesnt have one either. let me know guys, and where you got it from. thanks! :D

sr5punk - many of us 4g GTS owners have looked for 3SGE headers in the USA, but they don't seem to exist. I believe you'll have to go custom unless you can get someone in Australia to ship you the Genie (mandrel) or their crush bent line, Wildcat. However, I don't know if there are any smog issues w/ these headers.

p.s. I couldn't find anyone in Sacramento who wanted to do custom work on my 88GTS (w/o charging me $2,000 for a complete exhaust system). Please let me know if you do!

Yeah... We Californians have those issues... I don't know what the deal is, but everything that you want done, can cost upwards of 1k! BS.

damn! well then I guess I will either start asking around or see if a genie one will work alright. oh well. there are always cat backs...

If it makes you feel any better, I had my stock system tested at only 3 psi of back pressure directly in front of the CAT. I don't think you can get much more free flowing on our stock systems w/o jeopardizing the scavage effect. I don't know what the CAT ads and whether or not a CAT-back will really do much for you. Seems like the CAT is the most restrictive part of the system - but I ain't no expert...

I don't know how the ST/GT are laid out, but I think our GTS benefits from not being a direct 4-1 collection but a 4-2-1. From my (very) limited knowledge, that helps a lot in terms of the exhaust from one port not backing up into the exhaust coming out another port (creating excessive backpressure). Anyone who knows better feel free to blast me here.

Two shops I did get to look at my car told me that for the engine size, HP output (etc) that the stock exhaust was about as good as anything aftermarket (at least anything they could do). Apparently, there are much worse designs/layouts out there than our Celicas.

Those two shops were wrong... If you had a better flowing header, no cat, and very low restrictive flowing, larger pipes, you will see a couple horses... I personally live to the west of you guys over in Sacramento. I live in lake county, and we have very little issues with smog, and only have to have it smogged every time we buy a new car... :) None of that yearly crap... So basically I can remove my cat, and not worry about it... If I was to do that... lol I don't plan on it though...

On the flipside, too little backpressure will actually decrease the power.
