    hey guys,

my sx dries up oil fairly quick, people have told me its normal since my car is an 86 model and has done more than 300k. ive fixed all oil leak problems and replaced seals and gaskets.

before i was using 20-50, it was a basic oil but decent brand. guy at the shops told me it might just be too thick, so now im trying a good 15-60.

anyone know what the manufacturer suggests? what does everyone else use?

    jas

15W60 is thicker than 20W50. Specs are to run 10w30. That seems like a pretty major burn or leak, with 300k thats not to surprising. have you considered a rebuild, but more desirable, swapping a fresher engine in?

I only use 15W40 as prescribed by the manufacturer. I use the high milage from respected brands only.

20w50 full synthetic. oil cap reccomends 5w30. dont think so. my oil is not all there, but i dont burn like my girlfriends camry. what a hog. if you have already replaced inner and outer valve cover gaskets along with distributor o ring, main seal, and head gasket, then you need a major rebuild. kind of dux cuz i think you have to replace most of those gaskets again, but if you arent able to rebuild it yourself, pleanty of people are happy enough to take your money and do it poorly for you. hehehehe just kidding. good luck with that though!@

i had the oil filter, cam seals, o/p seal, o rings on the oil pump and water pump and rocket cover gaskets changed a month or so ago. its dry as a bone now underneath the car.

havent touched head gasket yet. dont have the money to spend on the car for now.

i guess ill go to a lot thinner when im finished with the load ive got in it now.

    thanks guys
