Weird sound and dash light when braking at night

When I was driving down the highway at night I hit my brakes and the little light icon came on in the dash for rear lights warning signal (the icon of the car with what to me looks like lights shining off the back). It only came on for a split second and the it made a sound like "pewshhhhhh" (almost like when people immitate the sound of a lazer gun). If I lightly press I had no sound or light and a quicker flash of that light, but if I press hard I get the light and the sound. Any ideas? I replaced the alternator and charged the batter recently. Thanks

either a bulb is going in the back or you have a short relating to the rear lights.

that rear lights warning is supposed to be on if one of your bulbs are out in the back

That sound could actually just be ur pedal.....jump under there and hit ur pedal with ur hand to try to get it to do it again....ive heard this sound before. ur brakes could just need bleeding

you have a bulb out or the ground screws are loose on the boards

the noise is either a brake pdeal that needs to be lubed or you need a booster

Bleed brakes - test them with the motor off, sounds like air in the system or leaky booster as Mafix said.
Take out rear bulbs, clean them and check the contacts

Thanks for the advice. I'll do exactly what you said and post back up if that corrects the issue.
