hi guys i just did a timing belt water pump and oil pump store and the car is running fine but the new pump i installed must have been in storage for a while and the oil in the sealed bearing has dried up so technically i need to replace the water pump with another new one. asides this the car has been running great for 3 weeks and then today on the way home from mercedes-benz school about 30 seconds after i turned on the car the water tempreture gauge went straight to hot. i pulled over turned off the car checked my oil for signs of water and then checked the radiator and breather tank levels they were fine to and had no signs of oil in them plus the compression of the engine was fine so not a headgasket. i checked the tempreature sensor and sender the sender is fine but the connector on the sensor is pretty sketchy. any ways it did this random tempreature flicking al the way home from hot straight to middle in half a second. so do you guys think i need to replace the sensor or is it likely the pump is gone and needs to be replaced

    Thanks

Is the pump noisy? if not there's no reason to change it.

If the sender connection was bad the fan would stay on, pull the wire to confirm the fan spinning. You don't say if the fan is operating properly?

Did you change the thermostat? This problem sounds more like a sticky thermostat, remove it and put it in boiling water to check it's opening & closing, you should always check thermostats before fitting.

Is your water green? No anti-freeze or rusty water will eat pump bearings, gaskets, channels etc.

Hey thanks man the thermo fans come on and the sender looks fine so that's okay I seriously reckon it's either a shagged thermostat or the temp sensor yes the pump is noisy but not over the top it's only when you back off and it's not to loud but yes it needs to be replaced so I'll do thermostat when I do that

    Thanks nick

You can't drive it like that, rather remove the plunger from the stat
These cars give no warning and when you see the needle in the red it's too late,
it can easily blow your head gasket or warp the cyl head

Before you change the pump, check the two cambelt idlers, they can also make weird noises

Replaced thermostat and water temperature sender and it is all fine turned out it was electrical like I thought it was sender so no risk of damaging engine thanks for all the help
