Yeah I got me some 80's J-Tin Went to look today and its a damn fine rare find in the uk, a near immaculate Toyota Celica ST162 I was shocked to find she's almost like new, not really got any plans at the minute, Reckon i'm just gonna slap her witht he stick over some period white alloys! Anyways Pics to do the talking! Pop up lights FTW Yes that is only 75k The bit that makes it go and me smile The standard Toyota rims are vile, so a quick search around the internets found me a set of Work RSB's, proper period, still got the stickers on the back with the date they were made 15/06/93 The tyres are shot and I need to order some tapered bolts to fit them, but I could resist bolting them up quickly to see how they sit! You can see in that last pic that i'm gonna need some 10mm spacers up the rear to bring them out a bit. I'm also thinking a slightly lower profile tyre and some major lowering??? The paint on the rim centres was flakey and the alloy underneath corroded, so I decided a full refurb is in order! You can see here there's 36 bolts per wheel They took a long time to remove, even with the air tools... Finanlly the centres were out Leaving this Smacking the tyre on the ground soon cracked the front bead allowing me to pull the polished rim off Try as I might though I couldn't break the bead on the rear of the rim, so I still have a pile tyres with half a rim attached in me Garage Once all 4 wheels were done I was left with this, thats 144 tiny little bolts The centres were corroded badly, attacking them with NitroMors removed the paint The corrosion was removed with the wire wheel and drill method Looking good so far Next step is to finish the other 3, then get onto painting
Sick, watch out there are probably 30 people on the forum wanting to steal your car I also would like to space my wheels out further, but is it harmful to the barrings/tire/ suspension components?
that is a mighty fine celica you got there. those folding mirrors are to die for. i want those like no other. ahhhhh! C'est la vie. anywho those rims are very nice also. i cant believe there are 36 bolts per wheel. freaking nuts. was that 75000 km or 75000 miles? either way that is extremly low. how much did you end up buying it for? take more sexy pictures with those mirrors!!! :hail: :wtg: :rocklicker:
Spacing out 10mm or so should be fine, i'd say upto 25mm will be rite, anymore and bearings will take a hammering. Whats with the mirrors? Dont your lot fold in? There a standard thing over here I think She's just tipped 77k MILES now, not bad for a 19 year old car The wheels have progressed further now, I have one in paint, i've gone for a body coloured white centre. They look mint, i'll post some more pics tomorrow. I paid £700 for her, just for the bodywork alone, its almost perfect. Saying that the interior is like new and the engine feels fresh, just gonna give her a thourough service when its not raining (could be some time)
So jealous..... Folding mirrors are not an option over here. No need as our roads are wider with less of a chance of having them taken off. Thats a nice car. Good shape too.
beautiful example you've got there!! welcome aboard mate! looks really clean with those rims on there! and nice spotless engine bay!
holy crap! 700 euro for that? unbelievable. got yourself a steal there pal. yeah we got screwed on funny things like folding mirrors and clear lenses. funny shit eh?
damn you and your power mirror folding abilities. oh yeah? big tough guy with power folding mirrors. well i would like to see you fold a piece of paper more than 7 times dirrectly in half each time. try that one on for size tough guy! :eew: :lala:  :gack:
Beautiful condition and the Celica looks great in white. Question: It's an 89 but why does it have the 86-87 heatshield with the cut-out for the O2 sensor?
More wheel progress Started to strip the other 3, NitroMors is great stuff, but it struggled to removed the 15 year old paint Once off and cleaned up i gave one a shot of zinc etch primer Then attacked it with some white, unfortunaly the paint was crap, its come out alright, but i'm not happy with the finish, so i'll flat it back and go again with some fresh paint. When it was dry i threw it in one of the rims to see what it will be like, i reckon they look well???
I am a real fan of painted rims. Our cars would look really silly with full chrome, or a full polish... That's my opinion though, some others might like that look. I am doing something similar with a set of enkei rims, but they are going to go to a gunmetal, or anthracite look. Keep us posted man, these wheels are looking hot!
