Any body delete their TVIS system? What benifets did you gain or is it a regret?

I'm also curious about this since I'm pretty sure that the diaphragm on the system of my car wont hold. I assume that this causes the TVIS to default to open all the time. It's been this way for years since I couldn't get a diaphram from the dealer when I did a valve job back in 2008. I've seen a few 3sge's at the junk yard so I might snag a complete intake mani one of these days. The car runs OK but no real major surge of power at 4300 RPM. Smooth throughout the range, but its an auto with ECT...

in part of doing the head gasket we found that my tvis was missing the #1 cylinder flap and screws. can see on the piston where they went. after we get this thing done I will have post up how it drives and runs. its simple to do. just remove the screws on the and pull the flaps.

Can't really comment has to weather it makes a difference has mine was already taken off before i got the car,
It's the 3sgte and she flies lol, The only thing i will say is she takes a bit longer to turn over when starting from cold.

Maybe that explains why mine is always a little slow to start from cold (or maybe the cold start injector sensor??).

I thought the cold start injector sensor so bought a new one, It made no difference lol.
Ho well i suppose i know have a spare.

wouldn't think that the tvis would affect anything with starting saying that it is designed to maximize the low end torque. is there something I don't know that you guys do?

tvis...think vtec. if it's working on you n/a guys, you'll know. all you guys with cars htat idle should be using your tvis.

I wish mine worked but jut too much trouble to get a new diaphragm let alone install it.

i've driven two different GTS's, one with a broken tvis and one with a perfectly working tvis.

keep it. unless you're boosted, leave it alone. if boosted, might be beneficial to find out where tvis is the most efficient depending on how much boost.

Mafix: just wondering...could you use a MBC to control TVIS? i know it's electronically controlled but vacuum operated...or will that just allow me to delay tvis to a higher rpm

If you looking for a diaphragm I have one that I removed from my car make me an offer will send pictures if needed in my case removing it was a better option but I am boosted
i find that a shit setup toyota came up with in any way my opinion.

Yes, it's possible but difficult to set up, moving the opening point I don't think will lead to any gains

There has been much debate on the removal of T-VIS, most agree that it leads to a drop in low end torque and a gain in peak power.
There are some charts on the UK GT4 site proving this.

It is not as noticable on the GTE heads as they have smaller inlet ports, however many GE's did come fitted with GTE heads or got swapped later.
    GE head #11111 88360
    GTE head # 11111 88381

thats funny. i just got my car back today after the head gasket job and tvis delete. it does have less torque on the low end but its seems to accelerate better, i can tell better when the high rpm power starts to show up when driving it.

I still use my t-vis in my 5sgte and my aftermarket computer (adaptronic) controls my tvis at any point I want it too. I've actually got it opening at 4,200 rpm but doesn't close untill it passes below 4,000 rpm. I've had a little bit if a play with it as well making it open after the turbo comes on. I played around with it at the 2,700 point and to be honest i could actually tell some difference In pulling when boost come on

    T-VIS on demand

OK is there any modification to do a stupid-simple way of operating my TVIS manually? Without the vacuum diaphragm (which is bad on mine)?
Preferably with a little light that shine when the system is fully open...

I really don't know if you could do it without the vacume cause it needs it to help it open I think. I'm not even 100% how it works still with the vacume and the wires. There would be some people on here that would know if it is possible for it too work with or without it. .

no a boost controller won't work. you need an rpm switch (msd).
you have to control the selonoid that allows vacuum.

TVIS or Toyota Variable Induction System works via the ECU directing a VSV or Vacuum Switching Valve to open and close based on engine load..
The system can be operated without the ECU by actuating the TVIS VSV with a mere 12 volt switch..

Note: TVIS valves are normally open and it is the VSV that holds them closed until the ECU sees a desired engine load at which point it lets them open mechanically.

That's all good but since my diaphragm is bad mine stays open under spring pressure all the time ..
My head is currently at the machine shop (Stig was correct as usual; bad HG) but I doubt if I can get a good one ASAP before everything goes back together so another six years without it working. At least I discovered that my exhaust cam was one tooth off so maybe it'll run a little stronger anyway
