Turbo Manifold

Discussion in 'Forced Induction' started by allblackalltrac, Jan 21, 2009.

  1. My memory must be getting foggy from old age but was there ever a cast turbo manifold for the 3sgte(gen1) that still utilized the single entry ct26 turbo flange other than the factory piece???

    not to my knowledge.

  3. Will,

I got a couple of questions regarding the STR manifold you are using...it looks big, alot bigger than the stock piece, how much bigger would you say this is compared to the factory single entry manifold ie. internal runner volume, is there a flow rating for this manifold?

no flow rating but it's massive on the inside. it is a log style so no individual runners like the stock one but it's been working great and keeps the turbo close to the block so you can run big ass turbos like mine.

any pics of the manifold MAFIX?
all the log style ive seen(mostly honda/7mgte) are terrible

it's the str manifold. pics in my build thread.

  7. Theres also the Turbonetics and the replica - both cast design with a T3 flange but adheres more to Toyota original design then to the log style manifold that STR manufactures...also appears to have smaller runner volume when compaired to the STR manifold as well.

Wastegate port location aside, what made you decide on this particular design?

I asked a well known distributor there opinion on all three manifolds but I would like to hear the opinion of an actual user.

position of the turbo. because mine is more of a drag car, lag isn't an issue. so a log is fine. i need lag to get her going, otherwise it's a spinner the whole time. the turbonetics design is crap. don't ever buy it. the wastegate port comes off 1 runner. can you say boost creep?

  9. I dont particularly like the wastegate location on the Turbonetics manifold either but I plan on using a IWG turbo anyway so that port would be blocked off.

Trying to find a S252/S256 in a .58 - .68 AR with extended tip has proven to be difficult and was wondering if the smaller frame turbo would see full boost below 3300RPM with the log style manifold.

What kind of lag are we talking about here Will, at what RPM do you see full boost?

These manifolds are only a second resource as I want to retain the stock look and CT26 turbo flange so as to utilize either a LIPP BOSS JR. or Turbonetics CT26/T3 turbo although finding the A/R for the later has proven to difficult as well. However assuming that the Turbonetics is an identical copy of the discontinued HKS Sport turbo upgrade for the 7MGTE than it uses a A/R of .63

Sourced out a ex. TTE ST165 exhaust manifold so hopefully that pans out, which BTW is the ONLY manifold other than stock that still utilizes the CT26 turbo inlet flange.

    either this one
    S256 4 bolt Outlet 74/64 Turbine Wheel 0.55 A/R
    or
    S256 4 bolt Outlet 69.5/61.5 Turbine Wheel 0.55 A/R

check and see if either are extended tip.
the s252 is a flop, don't even bother with it.

Mild steel flanges on that manifold yes. That was just some materials we had lying around from previous manifolds that were made at the shop.
I can get whatever you need though.

very nice. perhaps in the future we can talk. i have extremely specific needs, lol. but nothing for a while. i have more than enough to do right now with the parts i have here. plus the stuff i currently need to order

Much appreciated! I understand completely that you don't need one at the moment lol. Nothing more hillarious than being able to fab a manifold for other people but have no money to fab up one for myself haha. Our shop is sucking me dry at the moment. drool5
