Well I got the car (88 st) from a friend, been fixing this and that. One day it starts popping out of 5th gear, look at the tranny from below and see a hole where a bolt used to be. Couldn't s see any threads in the hole but fluid was leaking out, Ive sealed the hole refiled the tranny and its still popping out of 5th. Does anyone know more about this area of the tranny and what it is that Im now missing?

Thanks for looking Youds, Ive sealed it up by taping in another bolt but im not sure if the original bolt went all the way into something inside the tranny.... might have to go to the Junk yard and see if I can pull one and see what it is.

Oh good find - I would like to know what that bolt is for- Possible 2nd drain hole our maybe a plate on the inside of the gear housing.

i believe that is the bolt that holds the 5th gear in place. something along those lines.

Well I know a little more about the prob, and with a trip to a dealer and a All-Data print out later. As of now I have not made that trip and im relying on the bungy cord to hole it in 5th!!!! so ya, I might be one bolt away from fixing the prob. then again to get that bolt in to the right part inside the tranny might take alot more work then its worth doing.

i believe you have to open the trans to re-align the pin and reinstall the bolt.

why is it so easy to remove if it can fuck up so much? is there any reason why that bolt would need to be easily removed?

when you open the trans, to do anything, 5th gear needs to be removed.

Thanks for in info Mafix, thats what I thought would have to happen. For now I'm going to just stay with the bungycord, and make due. ;)

my gt was sticking in 1st gear. got stuck for like 30 minutes. I finally worked it out. what a pain in the ass. I didnt want to pull hard enough to break the linkage or anything but I did pull pretty fuckin hard to get it out.

    Very carefully.

I find it is easier to just get another gear box. And used ones are cheap, at least in my area.
