   I picked up a used tire for use as a full-size spare for my 165. The tire is in great shape except for a deep strip of rubber taken out of the sidewall.
   
   I'm wondering if perhaps it was a free dealer sample not for resale and that's why it had a deliberate chunk taken out of it. Can anyone confirm they do this?
   Botton line: Is this tire safe to use as a temporary spare, just to get out of a jam? Thoughts?

   no when they send tires away fro warantee they scrape off the DOT number...good chance the tire is bad
